SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team returns to action against Cameron in a Lone Star Conference game at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Aggie Gym in Lawton, Okla.
ASU (13-4, 3-2 LSC) is coming off a home win over Midwestern State, while the Aggies (9-7, 3-2 LSC) fell by two in a road-contest at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday. CU is 6-2 on its home court this season, including 2-0 in LSC play in Lawton with wins over West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Commerce.
"I think Cameron is a real factor in the Lone Star Conference this season," ASU head coach
Chris Beard said. "They return the Player of the Year (Craig Foster) who is arguably the best player in the conference again this year. He really starts a lot of what they do and is a smart player with the ball in his hands. He's able to score and also get his teammates involved. They have a strong frontline and Division I transfer who is having a strong season. We have a lot of respect for their program and know that we will have to play well to win on Saturday."

Angelo State Ram Report
Angelo State is coming off an 83-68 win over the Mustangs at the Junell Center and is currently second in the LSC by shooting 48 percent from the field (450 of 935), second in defense by limiting opponents to 39.5 percent shooting, fourth with 75 points per game, fourth in holding opponents to 68.9 points per game and third in scoring margin (plus-6.1). ASU ranks 18th in the nation by holding their opponents to the 39.5 shooting percentage are first in the LSC and 63rd in the nation with 251 assists.
As a team, the Rams are shooting 64 percent from the free-throw line (289 of 447) and 34 percent on 3-pointers (86 of 247). ASU is averaging 37.6 rebounds per game, a plus-four advantage over its opponents, and 3.5 blocked shots per game. ASU is averaging 68.6 points per game and is shooting 41 percent from the field through the first five games of conference play.
The Rams enter their game against Cameron having won three of their last four games, but with each of those wins coming at home. ASU has a 4-4 record away from San Angelo (2-4 away, 2-0 neutral). A win over the Aggies on Saturday would match last season's conference win total (4-14 LSC) after only six conference games played this season and would also snap a five-game losing streak against Cameron. ASU has also lost its previous four meetings in Lawton, dating back to a 72-71 road-win over the Ags on Jan. 11, 2007. The Rams hold a 21-16 advantage in the all-time series.
ASU is 2-0 playing in the state of Oklahoma this season after opening the year with wins over East Central and Southwestern Oklahoma State in games played in Weatherford, Okla.

Ram Rundown
Kenny Williams leads the Rams with 21.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game through the first five LSC games and with 18.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game throughout the year. He leads the conference in scoring and is second in rebounding this season. Williams is coming off an 18 point, nine rebound performance against the Mustangs on Wednesday where he also had two assists, two blocked shots and two steals. His nine rebounds put him one board away from his eighth double-double of the season and he is tied with
Ryan Marsh with 16 blocked shots for the team lead. He has scored in double figures in 16 of ASU's 17 games this season and has scored 20 or more points in nine games. His seven double-doubles, which lead the conference, have come against ECU (28/10), York (27/11), Western New Mexico (12/10), McMurry (16/12), Arkansas-Fort Smith (22/13), Tarleton State (25/10) and ENMU (23/15). He scored a season-high 28 points in the season opener against East Central and secured 13 rebounds in a neutral-court win over Arkansas-Fort Smith. Williams was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 3 and the LSC Defensive Player of the Week on Dec. 7.
Tommy Woolridge scored in double figures for the seventh time this season by going for 12 points – including three first-half 3-pointers – against MSU on Wednesday. Woolridge, a junior from Chicago, is averaging 7.6 points per game and leads the team with 21 3-pointers this season.
Chris Talkington is second on the team with 20 3-pointers this season and is averaging 6.5 points per game in his senior season. Talkington is shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc on 49 attempts and has scored in double digits six times this season. He scored eight points against MSU, with four of them coming at the free-throw line.
Bryan Hammond, who is a senior from New Orleans, is averaging 11.4 points per game in conference play and 10.2 points per game throughout the season. Hammond transferred to Angelo State last season with Talkington from Nicholls State and leads the Rams with 70 assists this season. His assist average is 4.1 per game which ranks fifth in the LSC and his 1.6 assist/turnover ratio ranks sixth in the conference. He has scored in double digits eight times this season, including scoring his season-high with 19 points against York College and Western New Mexico. He had a season-high eight assists against McMurry and scored 15 points against A&M-Commerce and ENMU.
Daniel Skinner is second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per game and 46 assists and is scoring 8.8 points per game. Skinner is averaging 6 rebounds per game in conference play and has scored in double figures eight times this season. He recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds against York College where he also had six assists. A transfer from Jacksonville College, he is third on the team with 13 blocked shots.
Chantz Chambers, a freshman from Shreveport, La., is coming off his fourth double-digit scoring performance after scoring 12 points in 15 minutes of action against the Mustangs. Chambers is averaging 5.1 points per game this season with a career-high 13 coming against Northern New Mexico.
ASU sophomores
Omari Gudul,
Reggie Sutton and
Thomas Brandsma continue to add depth and options for the Rams. Sutton is averaging 5.8 points per game in conference play, including going for a season-high 12 points against WT. Sutton scored six points on Wednesday against MSU after also scoring six at ENMU. He is also averaging 2.5 rebounds per game and leads the Rams by shooting 77 percent from the free-throw line (34 of 44). Gudul has started 14 games this season and is averaging 4.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. A transfer from Ranger College, he recorded his career's first double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds against York College. Brandsma scored five points on Wednesday against MSU, including hitting a 3-pointer. A transfer from McMurry along with Williams, Brandsma is averaging 3.4 points per game this season and has gone 6 of 8 from beyond the arc. He established a career-high with 11 points in ASU's win over A&M-Commerce which included going 3-for-3 on 3-pointers.
Cameron Aggie Report (9-7, 3-2 LSC)
Cameron is coming off a pair of LSC road losses at Tarleton State (76-52) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (59-57) after it was on a five-game winning streak which included starting conference play with wins over Eastern New Mexico (59-58), West Texas A&M (69-68) and Texas A&M-Commerce (69-66). The Aggies are averaging 69.1 points per game this season and are shooting 45 percent from the field. The opposition is scoring 68.4 points per game against them which ranks third in the LSC.
The Aggies are led by senior guards Will Cook and Craig Foster this season. Foster, who was selected as the LSC Preseason Player of the Year, is averaging 14.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and is leading the team with 69 assists and 26 steals. A hometown player, Foster went to Lawton High and was an NABC All-American and the LSC Player of the Year last season after averaging 16.6 points per game and dishing out 153 assists. He is currently eighth in the LSC in scoring and third in assists.
Cook is in his first season at Cameron after transferring in from Samford University. A 6-foot-5 shooting guard, Cook leads the Ags with 15.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He has also contributed 26 assists, four blocked shots and eight steals. He has scored in double figures in 14 of the Aggies' 16 games, including going for 21 points in their season-opener against Oklahoma Panhandle. A Dallas native who played at Hillcrest High, Cook scored his season-high with 26 points against Drury, while his conference-season high came in a 23-point effort in CU's 69-68 win over West Texas A&M.
Desmond Henry is third on the team with 8.9 points per game and is averaging 3.5 rebounds. A junior from Irving, Henry has played a limited role for the Aggies the past three games after scoring 12 points in the win over WT. Tank Mayberry, the tallest and biggest Aggie on the roster, stands at 6-foot-10 and weigh 300 pounds. Mayberry is a Corpus Christi native who started his career at Navarro College and UTSA before heading north to Oklahoma. He is averaging 6.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for the Ags this season. Sean McGary has started all 16 games this season and is averaging 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds. McGary played at Northeast Community College after his high school career in Omaha, Neb., averaging 9.4 points and 3.4 rebounds last season as a sophomore in the junior college ranks. Â
