SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team completes the first half Lone Star Conference play with a 4 p.m. game on Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

ASU (14-4, 4-2 LSC) is 9-0 home this season, including a 3-0 conference record at home following wins over Texas A&M-Commerce, West Texas A&M and Midwestern State. The Javelinas (6-12, 1-5 LSC) are 0-3 in LSC road games this season with defeats at A&M-Commerce, WT and MSU. A win against TAMUK would give ASU its first three-game conference win streak since the 2008-09 season when the Rams ran off five straight LSC wins.

The Rams are unblemished at home through the first nine games of the season for the first time since the 2000-01 season. During that run, the Rams finished 10-0 at home and advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament. ASU has only four more home games this season after Saturday's contest.

The Rams and Javelinas split their games last season with the home team winning each game. The Javelinas have a 50-46 all-time advantage in the series against the Rams. ASU won the first ever meeting between the two schools with an 83-71 win on Dec. 18, 1965.

PREGAME QUOTES

Angelo State head coach Chris Beard
On playing against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at the Junell Center:
"We have a lot of respect for the Texas A&M Kingsville program. Their current record this season is misleading. They are talented enough to win every game on their schedule.  They played a very tough non-conference schedule and have been in several one possession games in the conference. This game is no different from any other conference game in the fact that we will have to play very well to have a chance to win."

On his relationship with Texas A&M-Kingsville head coach Pete Peterson:
"I worked with Coach Pete at the University of Incarnate Word during my first season in college coaching. I was a graduate assistant coach and Pete was the full time assistant coach. I have been very lucky in my career to work with and for some great coaches. Pete is in the top of that list. He is a great teacher and coach, and an even better person. The Lone Star Conference is recognized today as one of the best leagues in college basketball because of the coaches like Pete who have done things the right way for years.  Kingsville is lucky to have Coach Pete and I am fortunate to have him as a mentor and friend. I learned a lot from Pete. Attention to detail and a constant focus on recruiting are two of many things we emphasize today that I learned from Pete."

On where the Rams are at coming into the final game of the first half of LSC play:
"It has always been a goal for our team to be playing our best basketball of the season in February and March. Our team continues to be a work in progress. If we can continue to improve daily, I believe we can be a factor during the second half of conference play."
