SAN ANGELO – Fresh off a pair of dominant season-opening wins last weekend, the Angelo State basketball will return to action at 8 p.m. on Tuesday for a non-conference game against McMurry at the Junell Center.
The Rams (2-0) are 35-19 all-time against the War Hawks (1-0) after sweeping the season-series last year. ASU is 13-2 at home over the past two seasons and averaged 91.5 points per game last weekend with a 97-60 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State last Friday and then an 86-51 win over Texas A&M International on Saturday. The War Hawks are coming off a 101-93 win over Concordia last Saturday in its season opener.

Chris Beard, who is 21-9 with the Rams, coached McMurry from 2012-13 before coming to ASU last season. Beard and the Rams are off to a 2-0 record for the third straight season and will also host Arkansas Tech at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Junell Center this week.
Demario Mayfield led the Rams last weekend with 12 points and also added 3.5 rebounds per game. Mayfield, a senior from Royston, Georgia, opened his career at ASU with a team-leading 15 points against OPSU and then scored nine against TAMIU. He hit four of his six 3-point attempts during the weekend and also added five assists in the two games.
Marsell Holden guided the Rams to their win on Saturday with 18 points against TAMIU where he connected on three 3-pointers and also hit five free throws. Holden was limited to only two points in the season opener, but responded by shooting 62 percent from the field in the second game.
Chris Jones is third on the team with 9.5 points per game and leads the team with nine assists. Jones opened the season with 11 points and six assists against the Aggies and then had eight points and three assists against the Dustdevils. Jones, a senior from Dallas, also averaged four rebounds per game and shot 61 percent from the field during the two games.
Omari Gudul averaged 8.5 points per game for the weekend with eight points against OPSU and then nine against TAMIU. Gudul, who is coming off a strong sophomore season at ASU, also had five rebounds against TAMIU and shot 70 percent from the field on 10 shots last weekend.
DeQuavious Wagner added 6.5 points per game and four assists and four steals last weekend, while
Bilal Richardson leads the team with 10 rebounds and
Thomas Brandsma has nine rebounds coming into the third game of the season. Richardson opened the season with 10 points and four rebounds against OPSU before going for six points and six rebounds in the second game. He is shooting 83 percent from the field on six shots, while Brandsma led ASU with six rebounds in the opener and averaged 2.5 points per game.
Kyle Vasher and
Dakota Rawls both averaged 7.0 points per game, while
Raijon Kelly is coming off his first weekend with the Rams by scoring eight points in the opener and five against TAMIU.
Brentine Taylor scored 10 points on Saturday against TAMIU and added five rebounds, while
Tommy Woolridge scored four points in the opener and five against TAMIU.
Connor Robinson led McMurry with 44 points against Concordia by hitting 12 of 16 from the field and also going 20-for-23 from the free-throw line. Jordan Holmes added 24 points in the win where the War Hawks shot 59 percent from the field and had a 44-37 rebounding advantage.
Angelo State will continue its five-game home stand to start the season against Arkansas Tech at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Junell Center.
