KINGSVILLE – Tarleton State's Dalton Weeks hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the top of the ninth and the Angelo State baseball team stranded the tying run at second to end the game as the Rams fell 9-8 to the Texans in the second round of the Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship on Friday at Nolan Ryan Field.

ASU (27-25) will now play West Texas A&M in an elimination game at noon on Saturday. The game was originally scheduled to be played after the first game, but was postponed due to heavy rains and thunderstorms in Kingsville.

"We've been in the win or go home situation for a while now, so I think we're used to it and can hopefully use that to our benefit now," ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. "You can't get wrapped up in looking ahead at the scenarios. You have to focus on the game you're playing and do everything you can to win and advance."

Tarleton State is the lone unbeaten team in the tournament and has advanced to the tournament finals after scoring six of its nine runs in the fourth inning. TSU's run production came on two hits, a bases loaded walk and a hit by pitch. The Rams trailed 6-1 going to the bottom of the fourth, but staged their own surge. Derek Tyner hit a two-run double down the left-field line to get ASU back on the board and Nehwon Norkeh followed with an RBI single to right field. ASU scored its fourth run of the inning when Tyler Coughenour advanced from third after the TSU pitcher threw the ball away trying to pick off Norkeh at first.

ASU tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth with Christian Summers scoring from second on an error that came off the bat of Tyner. TSU regained the lead with two runs on two hits in the sixth before Cameron Massengill hit a two-run single up the middle of the infield to score Summers and David Goggin.

Summers led the Rams at the plate, going 3-for 4 and scoring two runs. Massengill extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 2-for-5 game, while Reggie Rodriguez went 2-for-4. Graylon Brown (6-4) received the loss after allowing the game-winning run to score on the sacrifice fly. Brown went 3 1/3 innings of relief and finished with four strikeouts and allowed only one run. Starter Jake Feckley went 3 2/3 with two strikeouts, one walk and four hits. He saw six runs score, but all were unearned.

The Rams committed three errors in the field and stranded seven runners on base, while the Texans had four errors. The Rams fell to 19-13 all-time in LSC tournament play and to 13-12 in one-run games this season.

"We had a rough game and they only beat us by a run," Brooks said. "We'll have a tough one against West Texas and then we'll get another crack at them hopefully."
