No. 11/8 Rams ride 11-game winning streak into LSC home game against Cameron on Saturday

SAN ANGELO – The No. 11/8-ranked Angelo State Rams will be back on display on their home court at 6 p.m. on Saturday when they host Cameron in a Lone Star Conference game at the Junell Center.

The Rams (16-1, 4-0 LSC) rank first in the nation with a 55.5 field-goal percentage and are second by limiting opponents to 37.5 percent from the field. ASU is a program record 11-game winning streak after knocking off No. 23-ranked Midwestern State on Wednesday and is also 11-0 at home this season. The Rams, who are ranked No. 11 by the NABC and No. 8 in the D2SIDA Media Poll, are 22-2 over the past two seasons inside the Junell Center under head coach Chris Beard and associate head coach Cinco Boone.

"Cameron is a very talented team," Beard said. "They have a good combination of returning players and new players with experience from junior college and Division I schools. They are very aggressive offensively. Defensively, Cameron is athletic and has good size in their frontline. Cameron is a difficult team to play against. We have had some great crowds already this season. We appreciate the support. We hope we can continue to build a program with a home court advantage"

Cameron (10-7, 2-3 LSC) is coming off a 78-71 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak. The Rams went 3-0 against the Aggies last season, including a 64-59 win in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Championships in Allen.

Angelo State also leads the nation with a 29.4 scoring margin advantage this season and is second with 349 assists and 11th with 171 steals. The combination of stifling defense and offensive prowess has produced 10 games where the Rams have won by 30 or more points and 15 double-digit wins. The only single-digit win came in a nine-point overtime victory over Arkansas Tech. ASU has limited opponents to 35-percent shooting or less in 10 games this season, including limiting the Mustangs to 33.3 percent on Wednesday.

"Good teams are committed to playing well on both sides of the court, on offense and defense," Beard said. "Our team has shown the ability to score and defend but we are still working at being more consistent."

The Rams are averaging 92.6 points per game this season which ranks fifth in the nation and are scoring 87.5 points per conference game. ASU, which is off to the best start in program history, is shooting 40.1 percent on 3-pointers (124 of 309) and own a plus-11 rebounding margin advantage over its opponents.

Angelo State will return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against Texas A&M-Commerce (14-3, 3-1 LSC) at the Junell Center after its game against the Aggies on Saturday. The Lions play at West Texas A&M on Saturday before travelling to San Angelo next week.
