SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No.13 Angelo State men's basketball team will look to extend its undefeated record at the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic in San Antinio facing Missouri Western State on Friday, November 27 at 12:45 p.m. and Missouri S&T on Saturday, November 28 at 12:45 p.m.
The Rams enter the weekend with 5-0 overall record have won both of its games on the road. Missouri Western State is currently sitting at 2-2 on the year, and ASU is 0-3 all-time against the Griffons. This will mark the initial meeting between the 1-3 Missouri S&T Miners and the Rams.
The high scoring Rams lead the conference and are top five nationally with a 26.4 scoring margin. ASU has also claimed the sixth spot nationally and first in the LSC with 104 total team assist averaging 20.8 per game. Claiming the 21st sport in the nation in blocked shots with 26, the Angelo State defense is recording an average of 5.2 blocks per game.Â
Leading the Rams offense has been Shelton Boykin, Tre Bennett and Stedman Allen. Boykin has put up 95 point this season while shooting .618 from the field in 2015. The junior has dropped over 18 points in four of the last five games. He has a team third 28 rebounds and 15 assists thus far. Defensively, Boykin has tallied a team leading 10 steals. Â
Bennett, who has recorded the most minutes (144) for the Rams is averaging 28.8 minutes per game. The senior is second on the team with 89 total points for the season. in the last three games he has led the squad with 52 points, and was 16-26 from the field, 9-15 from beyond the arch, and 11-13 from the foul line. Bennett's 13 -28 from beyond the arch has place him second in the LCS with a .464 clip. The senior point guard has done an excellent job facilitating the Rams as he led the team last week with 18 assists.
Allen rounds out the offense with 82 points on the year. He has dropped an outstanding 20-23 from the line earning a team second .870 free throw percentage and is also second on the Rams having drained 31 of 50 from field for a .620 field goal percentage. Aiding the ASU defense the forward has added a team second nine steals to his overall figures.Â
Omari Gudul has anchored the Rams defense this season. The senior has led the team with six blocks in the past three games, which has moved him to eighth nationally and first in the LSC with eight on the year. The senior brought down a total of 26 boards, with 17 of those being defensive. Offensively, Â he was 11 -24 from the field and dropped 24 points while adding five assists in last week's competitions.
Prince Foster, Quay King and Thomas Tshikaya have provided great depth for ASU. Foster has blocked a team second seven shots on the year, while also aiding the offense marking 16 assists. King has been a master from the arch averaging a team leading three 3-pointers a game giving him 46 points on the year. Tshikaya has pulled down a team second 30 rebounds.
