SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 5/6 Angelo State men's basketball team will look continue its undefeated start to the 2015-16 season with a match-up against McMurry University on Monday, December 14 in the Stephens Arena at 7 p.m.
As the Rams open up a new week, its high scoring offense continues to hold on to the number one spot in the Lone Star Conference and the number 11 nationally with 94.3 points per game. The teams scoring margin, which is averaging a 21.1 differential per game, is also tops in the LSC and ranks eighth nationally. ASU also leads the conference with both its .759 free throw percentage and its 18.44 assists per game average.
Tre Bennett remains the team leader as he averages 17.1 points per game as he has marked five games this season with at least 20 points. He also has a team high .435 percent from beyond the arc. The point guard has done a phenomenal job of allocating the ball for the offense. Recording a team high eight assists in the last game against Lubbock Christian he is averaging 4.6 assist per game.
Coming off an 18 point performance against LCU on December 10, Stedman Allen has been a steady scorer from the field for the Rams. He leads the team with a .577 shooting percentage from the field and have recorded double figure points in every match-up with the exception of two. The New York native is currently averaging 16.1 points per contest.
Completing the offensive standouts is Shelton Boykin and Quay King. Boykin is second on the team with a 16.6 point per game average. He has scored double-digits in every game he has played in this season. The junior leads the team with 14 total steals which averages him 1.6 steals per game. King has been proficient from long range for ASU and is averaging 2.1 3-pointers per game and a .322 3-point shooting percentage. He has had three games this season with at least a .500 3-point shooting percentage.
The Angelo State defense is averaging a total of 44.2 rebounds per game and is out rebounding its opponents by an average of 7.1 per contest. It is also averaging two more steals per game (8.5) than its opponents and 5.5 blocks per game which is currently a LSC second.
Senior Omari Gudul has solidified the Rams defense thus far leading the team in both the block and rebound categories. He is second in the LSC with 2.5 blocks per game and third with 8.8 rebounds per game. The forward also leads the team with two double-doubles with the last one being credited to him against LCU where he scored 10 points and pulled down 10 boards.
Prince Foster and Thomas Tshikaya round out the ASU defensive leaders. Foster recorded a team high three steals and three blocks in the Rams last match-up. He is currently second on the squad averaging 1.3 blocks per game. The South Floridian has also done a great job spreading the ball around with an average of 2.4 assist per game this season. He is second in this category for the team. Finally, Tshikaya is second on the team with 6.8 boards per game. He has marked five games with at least five rebounds this season.
