SAN ANGELO – The No. 15/13-ranked Angelo State Rams begin the final week of the regular season with a road game against Texas A&M-Commerce at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at The Field House in Commerce before hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday in their final regular-season home game of the season.
The Rams (23-3, 10-2 LSC) are 1-0 against the Lions (20-6, 8-4 LSC) this season after earning a 79-63 win on Jan. 28 at the Junell Center. ASU is 7-4 away from San Angelo after falling 81-78 last Saturday against Cameron in Lawton, Oklahoma. The Lions are 11-2 at home following a 73-69 win over West Texas A&M last Saturday in Commerce. The Rams and Lions will play after Texas Woman's and the A&M-Commerce women's basketball team which will start at 5:30 p.m. at The Field House.
Angelo State leads the nation with a 53.4 field-goal percentage and a 24.1 scoring margin advantage and is fourth in the country by limiting opponents to a 38.7 field-goal percentage. The Rams are also fifth with a 1.54 assist-to-turnover margin, sixth with 485 total assists, eighth with a 30.4 3-point field-goal defense and ninth by scoring 87.3 points per game. ASU leads the conference in 12 statistical categories, including assist-to-turnover ratio, assists per game (18.7), fewest turnovers (314), field-goal percentage, field-goal defense, scoring margin, scoring offense, steals per game (8.6), total assists (485), total steals (223), turnover margin (4.3) and turnovers per game (12.1).
The Lions are on a four-game winning streak with victories over Texas A&M-Kingsville, South Dakota School of Mines, Eastern New Mexico and most recently a 73-69 win over West Texas A&M last Saturday in Commerce where they are 11-2 this season. A&M-Commerce's last loss came in overtime against Midwestern State on Feb. 7. The Lions are averaging 81.2 points per game which ranks second in the conference behind only the Rams and are leading the conference with 29.5 defensive rebounds per game, fewest fouls (448), 762 free-throw attempts and 534 free-throws made.
The Rams will host Texas A&M-Kingsville in their final regular-season game of the year at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Junell Center. ASU will honor its five senior (
Chris Jones,
Marsell Holden,
Raijon Kelly,
Demario Mayfield and
Tommy Woolridge) after the game in a Senior Day ceremony. Each player will address the crowd as part of the postgame ceremony.

ANGELO STATE ROSTER REPORTChris Jones is the conference leader with 132 assists, 63 steals and a 60.6 field-goal percentage entering the final week of the regular season. Jones, who is averaging 15.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 5.1 assists per game is coming off an eight-assist and 14-point performance against Cameron. Jones, who is 14th in the nation in steals, has four or more assists in 20 games this season and has scored in double digits in 24 of 26 games. He is second all-time in ASU history with his 63 steals and is only behind James Gray (2000-01) who had 81 steals which is the program record. A senior from Dallas, Jones is a three-time LSC Defensive Player of the Week and has also earned one LSC Offensive Player of the Week honor. Jones scored a career-high with 25 points in a win over West Texas A&M and had 10 points and five assists in the win over Commerce in the first meeting. He established a career-high with 12 assists in a game against York College and has scored 20 or more points in six games this season. Jones is 166 of 274 (60.6 percent) from the field and owns a 2.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Demario Mayfield comes into the final week of the regular season leading the Rams with 16.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and also has 10 double-doubles and one triple-double. Mayfield is second in the LSC in scoring, total steals (39) and rebounding and is coming off a week where he averaged 19 points and 7.0 rebounds in games against Midwestern State and Cameron. He is third in the LSC with 106 total assists and second in the conference with 4.1 assists per game. Mayfield, a senior from Royston, Georgia, matched his career-best with 23 points last Wednesday against MSU and has scored in double digits in 24 of 26 games and has 20 or more points in nine games this season. He recorded his triple-double with 14 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds in a win over Arlington Baptist and went 5-for-5 on 3-pointers last week against MSU for a season-best. Mayfield is second in the conference – behind only Jones – with 106 assists (4.1 per game) and is shooting 50.5 percent from the field this season. He recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in the first meeting against the Lions where he also had four assist in the win. Mayfield is a two-time LSC Offensive Player of the Week selection and also has one LSC Defensive Player of the Week honor on his season's resume.
Marsell Holden leads the Rams and is second in the conference with 77 3-pointers this season and is shooting 43.8 percent from beyond the arc. Holden is currently fifth all-time in the ASU record book for most 3-pointers made in a season behind only Kenny Smith (84; 2004-05), Dexter Young (82; 1999-00), LaMarshall Corbett (81; 2009-10) and Darwin Carter (80; 2000-01). A senior from Farrell, Pennsylvania, Holden is coming off a 20-point game against Cameron where he hit six 3-pointers. He is 22nd in the nation with his 77 3-pointers. The six 3-pointers were one shy of his season's best which came with him hitting seven 3-pointers against Arkansas-Monticello. Holden is averaging 14.1 points per game for the Rams and has hit three or more 3-pointers in 16 of the 26 games this season. He scored a season-high 26 points in a win over Eastern New Mexico and went for 14 points in the first meeting against Commerce. Holden has scored in double digits in 22 games this season and has scored 20 or more points in four games.
Raijon Kelly is averaging 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for the Rams in his senior season where he is shooting 55.6 percent from the field and leads ASU at the free-throw line by hitting 34 of 38 (89.5 percent) of his attempts. Kelly, who is a Minnesota native, has scored in double digits in 14 games this season including a season-high 22 points in a win over ENMU where he went 7-for-7 from the field and also went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. His free-throw percentage currently ranks third all-time in ASU history behind only Vernon Ragsdale (93.5; 1990-91) and Corbett (90.3; 2009-10). He comes into the final week of the regular season with 88 assists which ranks ninth in the conference. Kelly scored 12 points and had three assists last Wednesday against MSU and had nine points in the first game against Commerce.
Tommy Woolridge is a senior who is in his second season with the Rams and is averaging 4.8 points per game. He has hit 22 3-pointers this season and now has 59 3-pointers in his career at Angelo State. A Chicago native, Woolridge led ASU with 37 3-pointers last season and is hitting 42.3 percent of his 3-point attempts this year. Woolridge scored a season-best 14 points earlier this year after hitting three 3-pointers at West Texas A&M and also had 11 points on three 3-pointers against South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
Omari Gudul is adding 7.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in his junior season and has started the past four games for the Rams. Gudul scored 12 points and had six rebounds in the first meeting against Commerce and also had 11 points last Wednesday against MSU. The tallest player on ASU's roster at 6-foot-10, Gudul leads the Rams with 19 blocked shots this season and has pulled down five or more rebounds in 14 games this season. He scored a career-high with 15 points at McMurry and is shooting 65.1 percent (82 of 126) from the field.
Bilal Richardson and
Brentine Taylor have been strong inside throughout the season along with Gudul in their junior seasons. Richardson has started 10 games this season and is averaging 5.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. An Atlanta native in his first season at ASU, Richardson has scored in double digits in five games this season including recording a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds against Arkansas-Monticello and is second on the team with 17 blocked shots. Taylor, who is also from Georgia and is also averaging 5.0 points per game, is adding 2.6 rebounds per game. Taylor scored a career-best with 13 points at McMurry and had five rebounds and seven points last week against MSU. He is shooting 56.5 percent from the field.

TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE LION REPORTThe Lions (20-6, 8-4 LSC) are currently fourth in the conference standings coming into the final week of the season. A&M-Commerce has won its past four games and are 11-3 in their past 14 games with those losses coming against the Rams, Tarleton State and Midwestern State.
Darrell Williams leads the Lions and the conference with 18.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. A senior from Chicago, he has recorded double-doubles in the past four games and has 17 double-doubles for the season. A transfer from Oklahoma State, Williams is sixth in the nation in rebounds per game. He was limited to nine points and seven rebounds against the Rams in the first meeting of the season in San Angelo.
LaDon Carnegie is second on the team with 15.7 points and has 4.4 rebounds per game, while Anthony Adams leads the team with 105 assists and is also averaging 11.5 points per game. Christian Macauley is also in double-digits with 10.0 points per game and is adding 5.8 rebounds per game. Adams is coming off a 20-point scoring performance against WT on Saturday after going for 13 points in the win over ENMU. Carnegie led the Lions with 18 points in the first game against the Rams this season.
A&M-Commerce will finish off its regular season by travelling to Stephenville to play Tarleton State on Saturday at the Wisdom Gym.
