SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State Rams own a dominant 22-4 record at home this season and will host Eastern New Mexico this weekend in a three-game Lone Star Conference set at Foster Field with championship opportunities still alive.
The regular season's final weekend begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday before a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Foster Field. Angelo State will honor its senior class of
Hayden Elrod,
Cody Semler,
J.C. Snyder,
Trae Davis,
Cameron Massengill,
Derek Tyner,
Miles Gully,
Brett David and
Blake Bass before the start of Saturday's first game.
The Rams (32-14, 19-13 LSC) are one game back in the standings to West Texas A&M (20-12 LSC) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (20-12 LSC) entering the final weekend of the regular season. The regular-season champion, or team which owns a tiebreak, will host next week's four-team conference tournament. ASU owns the tiebreak over Kingsville after the Rams swept a three-game set last weekend, while WT has the tiebreak over the Rams. If all three teams are tied at the end of the weekend, WT would host next weekend's conference tournament by virtue of having the best record against Tarleton State (13-16 LSC) which is the fourth seed. For ASU to host, it needs to win two more games this weekend than West Texas A&M and one more than Kingsville. The Buffs host Cameron (11-21 LSC), while TAMUK hosts the Texans. Â
ASU is on a five-game winning streak entering the series after sweeping the Javelinas last weekend, but is 1-3 against the Greyhounds after dropping three of four in Portales in the first meeting. The Rams own a 29-17 all-time advantage over ENMU, including an 18-4 record against them at Foster Field.
