SAN ANGELO -Â The Angelo State soccer team will hit the road again this weekend, taking on Midwestern State for the second time this season at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 in Wichita Falls.
The Belles (10-4-1, 6-3-0 LSC) are coming off a midweek road game on Wednesday against Texas-Permian Basin that saw them score a season-high four goals in one game for a 4-1 victory.
Two of the goals in the matchup came from forward Demi Tsambasis, who leads the Lone Star Conference in goals with 12 and ranks No. 14 nationally in the category. The 12th goal of the season doubles the senior's total from last season and also ties her with for fifth in the Belles record book for most goals in a season.
Tsambasis also had the assist on one of the Belles' second half goals, giving her a career-high five points in one game. The California native now has 27 points on the season which also leads the conference and ranks No. 15 in the nation. Tsambasis leads the team in most other offensive categories including total shots (70) and shots on goal (39).
Defender Shay Williams had the assist on one of the goals from Tsambasis and now leads the team in that category with four. The total is good for No. 3 in the LSC.
Both of the other two goals ASU scored in the game came from forward Loni Byers, who now has three on the season. The two-goal performance was the second in Byers' Angelo State career as she scored two during her freshman season against Oklahoma Christian.
The two goals tied Byers with freshman Trenadey Scott for second most on the team. Behind Scott are Analise Watson, Ally Warren and Cynthia Andrews who all have two goals each. The only other goal-scorers this season have been Tiffany Dang and Megan Allen.
Elizabeth Rodriguez and Morgan Sibson have also created a number of goal-scoring chances for the Belles, getting off 29 and 27 shots, respectively, this season.
This will be the second matchup of the season between Midwestern State and Angelo State. The Mustangs came away victorious the first time, scoring with just eight minutes left in the match for a 1-0 win.
The Belles defense played strong in the game, allowing just seven shots. The back line of Shay Williams, Ashley Exford, Callie Smith, Lauren Perry and Kylie Deel has played strong all season, allowing opponents to get off double digit shots just five times all season.
Angelo State's defense has also been helped by goalkeeper Sammy Cude. The freshman has played in all 15 games and leads the Belles in minutes played. Cude has made 47 saves on the season and her save percentage of .839 is good for fourth in the LSC.
The Belles have performed well on the road so far this season, winning all five away games and going 1-1 in neutral site matchups.
Midwestern State comes into the matchup with a 7-5-2 record and a 4-4 showing in conference play.
"The Wednesday-Sunday matchups are a weird scheduling thing," ASU head coach Travis McCorkle said, "but we've done it before. It's a little bit longer break than when we played Wednesday/Friday earlier this season, so we'll have a chance to get some players some rest and have them ready for Midwestern State."
