SAN ANGELO – The No.10 Angelo State volleyball team returns home to host Tarleton State on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m. in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Belles (20-2, 11-1 LSC) will be seeking to continue its seven game win streak and complete the regular season sweep of the TexAnns. ASU will also be looking to extend its undefeated 9-0 record at home this season. The team's attack continues to top the LSC with a .262 team hitting percentage, while the defense has held it opponents to a .140 clip on the season.
Tarleton State, which leads the LSC in kills per set (14.26) and is currently second in the LSC standings, will be entering Wednesday's match with an 18-4 overall record and a 10-3 record in the Lone Star Conference. The TexAnns are coming off a road sweep of Texas Women's and are 10-2 when playing outside of Stephenville. ASU owns the overall series with TSU, 37-14, with the Belles sweeping the TexAnns in the two team's last match earlier this season.
Heading the ASU attack will be Brianna Sotello, Mallory Blauser and Abbie Lynn. Sotello had a strong showing last week for the team as she led with 27 total kills averaging 3.86 kills per set. The junior was also second on the squad with 23 total digs for the week. Blauser followed with 21 total kills for the week and continues to lead the team with 317 total kills on the year. This averages her out to 4.28 kills per set in 2016. Lynn rounds out the group averaging a team third 2.36 kills per set and has recorded seven double-digit kill matches from the right side this season.
Setting for the offense will be LSC assist per set leader (11.61) Meghan Parker. The freshman tallied 72 total assists to aid the Belles to a pair of victories this past week, which averaged her 10.29 assists per set. Defensively, Parker chalked up 14 digs against the pair of opponents.
Solidifying the ASU defense against TSU will be Morgan Seaton and Mallory Davidson. Seaton was a force along the net against the Belles' last two opponents as she recorded a team high nine total blocks. She added a single solo block to maintain her team lead with a total of 10. Seaton currently leads ASU with 67.0 total blocks on the year. Offensively, the junior also checked in at third on the squad this past week with 19 kills from the middle blocker position. After marking a team leading 33 digs in the past two matches, Davidson has steadily climbed to second on the team with 226 total digs in 2016. She is averaging 3.18 digs per set.
Adding depth to the roster is Tulani Titley, Leiyona Young and Micheala Sifuentes. Titley is currently boasting a team third 41 total blocks on the season. The freshman also leads the team with a 0.98 blocks per set average. Young, a transfer out of Las Cruses, New Mexico, follows closely behind with 40 total blocks on the season and a team second 0 .91 blocks per set average. Finally, Sifuentes is second on the squad with 3.25 digs per set. The defensive specialist is currently only two digs short of accruing 200 digs in 2016.
