No.11/16 ASU Men's Basketball Heads to MSU for Top 25 Match-up

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 11/16 ranked Angelo State men's basketball team will travel to Wichita Falls for a top 25 match-up with the No. 21/22 Midwestern State Mustangs on Saturday, February 20 at 6 p.m.

The Rams enter the game carrying a 20-4, 8-4 LSC record. With its last win over Cameron the program marked a 20 win season for the sixth time in program history. The ASU offense continues to lead the Lone Star Conference scoring an average of 88.9 points per game and is defeating its opponents by an average scoring margin of 12.3 points. While, the defense is tops in the conference averaging 8.9 steals per game and an average of 17.79 turnovers forced per game. The last time the two teams faced off, the then No. 11/13 ranked Rams upset the No. 2/4 ranked Mustangs by a score of 91-83. ASU still trails in the all-time series 27-45.

Point Guard, Tre Bennett, continues to lead the Rams scoring an average 16.7 points per game and has now scored double-digit points 15 straight games. He is also averaging a .450 shooting percentage from the field, a .376 percent from 3-point range and a .859 percent from the free throw line. In his last game against Cameron the senior recorded a team leading 19 points and six assists. He currently leads the team and is second in the conference averaging 5.0 total assists per game. Defensively, he has pocketed 34 steals on the year and averages 2.6 rebounds per game.

Second on the team and fourth in the conference, Stedman Allen averages 16.5 point per game. He marked double figures against Cameron with a team second 18 point performance. Like Bennett, this was also his 15th consecutive game scoring double-figure points. He is currently boasting a team third a 5.1 rebounds per game and has tallied 23 steals this season. 

Quay King has been a solid factor from long range for the Rams shooting a team second 36 percent from beyond the arc. He has sunk 54 threes this season is currently averaging 2.3 threes per game. He continues to hold on to the third spot on the team scoring an average of 10.1 points per game this year. He has tallied double-figure points five of the last seven this and in 10 total games and season. 

Gudul leads the team and is currently third in the LSC grabbing a team leading 7.8 boards per game. Now averaging 1.8 blocks per game he has recorded a team first 43 blocks this season. The senior has recorded 14 games overall this season with multiple blocks. Gudul continues to average a team fourth 9.0 points per game. After his 10 point and 10 rebound performance against Cameron, he improved his double-double total to five on the season.

Thomas Tshikaya has also been a major factor in the Rams defensive efforts as of late. He is now averaging a team second 5.5 rebounds per game and has pulled multiple rebounds in 21 games this season. He has also totaled a team second 25 blocked shots this season. Offensively, he is now averaging 7.1 points per game.  The junior has marked two double-doubles on the year.

Finally, Prince Foster and Shaquan Rhoades have excelled on both sided of the ball form the Rams this season. Foster is averaging 2.0 assists per game with a total of 48 assists on the season. In the Rams last game against Cameron he was one of four to throw down double figure points for the night with 10. This improved his points per game average to 7.6 and has marked four consecutive games with double-figure points. After pocketing a pair of steal in his last game the guard also has a team second 33 steals this year. He is also third on the squad with 22 blocked shots. Rhoades remains third on the team with 44 total assists and averages 1.9 assist per game. He is also remains in the third spot on the team with 25 steals.
