No.15/22 Rams Ready for Last Regular Season Game

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No.22 Angelo State Rams basketball team will make the long drive to Kingsville, Texas for its last regular season game as it takes on the Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas on Saturday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m.

The Rams will enter this match-up with a 20-5 overall record and an 8-5 conference record. This places ASU in a four way tie for second place in the conference.  With only one game remaining, the Rams will have the possibility of sharing first place with Midwestern State. This will be dependent on several other games around the conference. ASU's offensive attack continues to lead the LSC scoring an average of 88.2 points and an average of 15.52 assists per game. While, the defense tops the conference with an average of 8.88 steals and 18.1 turnovers forced per game. Angelo State came away with a 74-71 win in the last meeting between the two teams this season and is tied with TAMUK at 51 games apiece in the all-time series.  Coming off a win over Cameron in Lawton, Oklahoma, the Javelinas currently sit at 11-13 on the season and 3-10 in the Lone Star Conference.       

 Tre Bennett, once again led the Rams scoring offense with 23 points as the team climbed back from a 23 point deficit falling just short of a victory in Wichita Falls.  He continues to lead squad scoring an average of 16.9 points per game. He has scored at least 20 points in seven games this season and has now scored double-digit points 16 consecutive games. The point guard is currently boasting a .445 shooting percentage from the field, a .390 percent from beyond the arc and a .860 percent from the stripe (2nd in LSC). Bennett also leads the team and is second in the conference averaging 4.7 total assists per game. On the defensive side of the ball the senior has pocketed 36 steals on the year.

Stedman Allen follows with a team second 16.3 points per game.  The senior also marked his 16th consecutive game scoring double-figure points when he knocked down 12 points against Midwestern State. He is currently sporting a team third a 5.2 rebounds per game and has improved his steals total to 24 for the season. 

Quay King rounds out the top scorers on the team as he posted a team second 15 point performance against MSU. He is now averaging 10.3 points per game and is second on the Rams shooting 36 percent from 3-point range. The junior is averaging 2.5 threes per game. He has now recorded double-figure points in six of the last eight games and in 11 total games. 

Omari Gudul continues to be a rock for the ASU defense as he leads the team and is currently third in the conference with a team leading 7.7 boards per game. With a team first 43 blocks this season the senior is averaging 1.7 per game. Gudul continues to average a team fourth 8.8 points per game and also holds the team lead for double-doubles this season with a total to five.

Thomas Tshikaya, who is averaging a team second 5.4 rebounds per game, has been an inside force for the Rams all year. The junior has grabbed multiple rebounds in 23 games this year and is also second on the squad with 25 blocked shots. Adding two steal to his number against MSU, he now has a total of 17 on the season. Offensively, he is averaging 7.0 points per game has tallied two double-doubles this season.

Guards Prince Foster and Shaquan Rhoades have provided great depth for ASU this year. Foster, a native of Miami, Florida, has tallied a team second 33 steals on the year and is only three out of the number one spot on the list. Also on the defensive side of the ball, Foster has improved to a share of second place with 25 blocked shots. He has distributed the ball 52 times this season for a team second 2.1 assists per game. In four of the last five games the junior has dropped in at least 10 points and has marked double-figure points in eight games this season. He is now averaging 7.5 points per game.  Rhoades remains third on the team's defense with 26 steals on the year. He has improved to a total of 45 assists with an average of 1.9 per game.
