SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No.9/12 Angelo State basketball team returns the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center to take on the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds on Saturday, February 6 at 4 p.m.
Currently sitting at 16-4 overall and 4-4 in the Lone Star Conference, the Rams are coming off a loss in Canyon, Texas against WT. Angelo is also 8-1 while playing in front of its home fans at in the Stephens Arena. ASU's offense continues to lead the conference averaging 88.7 points per game and with a free throw percentage of .736. Defensively, it averages a conference leading 9.10 steals per game. The last time ASU faced the Greyhounds it took a close, 70-68, victory in Portales, New Mexico. Down 16 points with 11 minutes left on the game clock, the team climbed back to take the game. ENMU is fresh of a 74-71 win over Texas A&M – Kingsville and enters the matchup with a 6-14 overall record and is 2-6 in the Lone Star Conference. Â
Tre Bennett leads the ASU offensive attack averaging a team high 17.0 points per game. He has now extended his streak of scoring double-figure points to 11 games with his last season high tying 25 point performance against WT. The senior is boasting a .462 shooting percentage from the field, a .403 percent from beyond the arc and .862 percent from the top of the box. He remains the team leader averaging 4.5 total assists per game. Defensively, he has moved into the top spot recording 27 steals on the season.
Stedman Allen follows closely behind averaging 16.3 point per game. The forward leads the team shooting a team high .525 percent from the field. He enters Saturday's matchup after scoring double- digits in his 11th consecutive game. On the defensive side of the ball he has grabbed a team third 4.8 boards per game and has marked two double-doubles on the year.  Â
Completing the offensive standouts, Quay King was 3-7 from the line against West Texas A&M marking his third consecutive multiple thee point game. The junior has hit multiple threes in 14 total games this season and has recorded double-figure points in the past three games. He is second on the team averaging 2.3 threes per game with a .346 shooting percentage from 3-point range.
Omari Gudul leads the ASU defense grabbing a team leading 8.1 boards per game. He has also recorded a team first 39 overall blocks, averaging 1.9 blocks per game this season. The big man has recorded two consecutive games with multiple block and 13 games game overall this season. He has eight games with double-figure boards in 2015-16 as well. He is averaging 9.2 points per game and has a team leading four double-doubles on the season.
Thomas Tshikaya has also made significant defensive contributions for the Rams. He has grabbed multiple boards in 18 games this season. He is averaging a team second 5.2 boards per game and is second on the Rams with 20 total blocks this season. Offensively, he is has averaged 6.0 points per game. Â
Rounding out the Rams, Prince Foster has played well on both sides of the ball for the Rams this season. The Miami native is averaging a team second 2.0 assists per game and 6.7 points per game. On defense he holds a team second 26 steals on the season and remains third on the team with 18 blocks. He has recorded 14 games this year with at least one steal.
