SAN ANGLEO, Texas – The No. 12/20 Angelo State men's looks to even up its series with Tarleton State on Wednesday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. in front of its home crowd in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Rams currently sit at 17-4 on the season and 5-4 in the Lone Star Conference. Angelo State is 9-1 while playing at the Junell Center this season and is riding a four game home winning streak. Â ASU's offensive attack continues to lead the conference averaging 89.2 points per game, in free throw percentage with .734 and in assists with an average of 15.62 assists per game. In its last match up against Eastern New Mexico, ASU scored 100 points for the sixth time this season in a game tying a single season program record for the most 100 point games in a season. Â On the defensive side of the ball the Rams lay within the national top 10 with an average of 17.90 turnovers forced per game. It also leads the conference with a 9.14 steals per game average. Â
Tarleton State will enter Wednesday's game with a 16-6 overall record and a 5-4 conference record. The Texans dropped its last game losing 73-57 to Cameron in Lawton, Oklahoma. Angelo State continues to lead the series against the Texans 36-35, with the last matchup between the two squads resulting in an 85-67 loss for the Rams.
Tre Bennett continues to lead the Rams high scoring offensive and is third in the conference averaging a team high 16.8 points per game and has now extended his streak of scoring double-figure points to 12 games. The Houston native is sporting a .464 shooting percentage from the field, a .395 percent from 3-point range and .852 percent from the charity stripe. He leads the team and is second in the conference averaging 4.6 total assists per game. Defensively, he now has a team leading 30 steals on the season.
Stedman Allen is currently averaging a team second and conference fourth 16.5 points per game. The senior leads the squad shooting a team high .530 percent from field goal range. He will enter the match up with the Texans after scoring double- digits in his 12th consecutive game. Defensively, he has grabbed a team third 5.0 rebounds per game and has recorded two double-doubles on the year.  Â
Quay King is second on the team and sixth in the conference averaging 2.3 threes per game with a .346 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. The junior has hit multiple threes in 14 total games this season and is averaging 9.8 points per game.He has tallied eight total games this season recording double-digit points. Â
Omari Gudul leads Rams pulling down a team leading 7.9 rebounds per game. This also places him fourth in the LSC in the rebounds per game category. He has also recorded a team first 40 blocks, which averages 1.9 blocks per game. The senior has recorded three consecutive games with a block and 13 games overall this season with multiple blocks. He has eight games with double-figure boards in 2015-16 as well. The big man is averaging 9.0 points per game and is still leading the squad with four double-doubles on the season.
Also making a significant defensive contribution for the Rams, Thomas Tshikaya has grabbed multiple rebounds in 19 games thus far in 2015-16. The native of France is averaging a team second 5.1 boards per game and is second on the team with 21 total blocks. He has contributed to the Rams high scoring offense improving his points per game average to 6.4 points per game. Â
Completing the Rams, Prince Foster and Shaquan Rhoades have been excellent all-around players this season. Foster, a junior out of Miami, Florida, is third on the team with an average of 2.0 assists per game and scores 6.9 points per game on average. Defensively he holds on to second place on the team with 28 steals on the season and remains third on the team with 19 blocks. Rhoades has moved up to second on the squad dishing out the rock 2.1 times per game. He has also jumped to third on the Rams with 24 steals on the year and has pocketed multiple steals in five of the last six games.
Wednesday's game has been declared a "white out" game by ASU and fans that enter the game can trade in a non-ASU shirt for a new "white out" shirt.
