SAN ANTIONIO, Texas – The Angelo State baseball team fell in its non-conference match-up with St. Mary's, 3-1, in San Antonio on Tuesday night.
The Rams dropped to 18-12 overall with the loss. ASU was out it hit 13-3 by the Rattlers and starting pitcher Joe Hauser was credited with his first loss of the season. With the win St. Mary's improved to 17-13 on the season. Rattlers pitcher, Chris Jones, Â was credited with the win and moved to 1-0 on the year.
Angelo State got out to an early start as Paxton DeLaGarza pushed Sam Kohler across with a single to centerfield. That would be the extent of the Rams scoring for the game. STMU plated a run in the second, fourth and fifth to secure the win.
Hauser tossed 3 1/3 for the Rams and gave up two runs off of seven hits and struck out a pair. Jhonatan Del Rosario closed out the game for the Rams as he entered in the bottom of the six and capped the night with a team leading three strikeouts. Fellow relievers Kellen Rholl and Dustin Angiel also made appearances on the mound for ASU and threw for a combined two innings.
DeLaGarza led the Rams at the plate with a pair of hits for the night. He recorded the only RBI for the team and was one of three Rams to draw a walk from the Rattlers. Elias Aguirre was the only other member of the team to record a hit for the night. Kohler lead ASU with two walks.
Angel o State continues its road trip with a four game series against Tarleton State in Stephenville. The First game of the series is slated for Friday, April 1 at 3 p.m.Â
