SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State soccer team will play its second home game of the week at 1 p.m. this Sunday, facing No. 11 Midwestern State at the ASU Soccer Field. ASU is hosting Youth Day for the match, meaning all children in eigth grade or below get in free when accompanied by an adult.Â
The Belles (10-2-1, 7-1-1 LSC) have the top offense in the Lone Star Conference this season, averaging 2.38Â goals per game and 8.31 shots per game.
Sophomore forward Trenadey Scott leads the ASU attack, coming off her first career hat trick on Wednesday night against Texas Permian Basin. The Fort Worth native has 14 goals, which is tied for No. 6 in the nation and leads the Lone Star Conference.
Angelo State has three more players in the top 10 in total goals in the LSC, including Cassandra Moosburger, who is tied for third with five goals, and Elizabeth Rodriguez and Mackenzie Broderick who are tied for seventh with three goals each.
Analise Watson is the only other Belle to score multiple times this season, as the junior recorded her second goal in the opening minutes of Wednesday's game against Texas Permian Basin.
Four other ASU players have scored once this year, including Avery McNeme, Janessa Dunbar, Molly Warren and Tiffany Dang.
McNeme is also tied for second on the team in assists, helping on three goals, The Angelo State leader in assists is Megan Allen, contributing to four scores on the year. She got her fourth on Watson's goal Wednesday against UTPB and is now tied for third in the LSC.
Defensively, the Belles are in the middle of their longest shutout streak of the season. The back line of Callie Smith, Marissa Brezgiel, Meagan Denn, Molly Warren, Kyah Carlsen, Kylie Deel, Cecilia Guerrero, and Amber Norris have blanked opponents in the last three games and not allowed a goal in 332 minutes and 22 seconds dating back to the game against Texas Woman's on October 8.
ASU has also seen solid play in goal this season from sophomore keeper Sammy Cude. Cude has already surpassed her 2016 save total, stopping 68 shots this season. Her save percentage of .829 ranks third in the conference.
Midwestern State comes into the game ranked No. 11 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches and averaging 1.57 goals per game. Mustang goalkeeper Courtney Burnette leads the conference with a save percentage of .854, and MSU has recorded eight shutouts, which also ranks No. 1 in the LSC.
Destinee Williamson in the offensive leader for the Mustangs, ranking second in the conference with 1.29 points per game. She has scored five times this season and has an LSC-leading eight assists.
MSU will face Texas Permian Basin in Odessa on Friday night before taking on the Belles on Sunday.
