SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State soccer team will play its final two home games of the 2017 season this weekend, facing Texas Woman's at 7 p.m. Friday and hosting Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Belles (11-2-1, 8-1-1 LSC) recently jumped into the United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 9 in the nation, and were No. 2 in the NCAA's most recent South Central Regional Ranking.
ASU has the No. 30 scoring offense in the nation this season, averaging 2.43 goals per game which also ranks first in the Lone Star Conference. The Belles have scored 34 total goals on 23 assists for a total of 91 points.
Sophomore Trenadey Scott leads the offense with 14 goals this season and four assists. Her 14 goals lead the LSC and rank No. 11 in the nation. With the four assists, she has 32 total points, which is the second most an ASU player has ever recorded in a single season. Scott's 32 surpass the 31 points Sierra Anderson scored in the 2015 season.
Scott was also named LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season this week after recording her first career hat trick on October 18 in a 4-0 victory over UT Permian Basin.
The Belles' second best goal-scorer is Cassandra Moosburger, who has scored six times and assisted a pair of goals in her first season at ASU. Moosburger's average of 1.08 points per game ranks her fourth in the LSC.
A pair of ASU players are tied for third on the team in goals, as Mackenzie Broderick and Elizabeth Rodriguez have each scored three times. Following them are Analise Watson and Ally Warren, who have two goals each, and Tiffany Dang, Avery McNeme, Janessa Dunbar and Molly Warren have all scored once.
Several other Belles have also scored points with assists this season, including Megan Allen, who is tied for the team lead with four, Meagan Denn with two, and Loni Byers and Callie Smith, who both have one.
Smith also leads the defense, winning LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season this week. Smith has played more minutes than any other ASU field player at 1,172, starting all 14 games.
She has been joined on the back line this season by Marissa Brezgiel, Meagan Denn, Kyah Carlsen, Molly Warren, Kylie Deel, Amber Norris and Cecilia Guerrero. The Belle defense has allowed an average of just 1.14 goals per game this season, which ranks fifth in the LSC.
The ASU defense has also been helped by Sammy Cude in goal. The sophomore has made 70 saves this year, with a save percentage of .814, which ranks third in the LSC.
Texas Woman's comes into the game at 5-7-4 overall with a 2-5-3 showing in the Lone Star Conference play. The Pioneers are led by Chelsea Martin and Haley Ward, who have scored six and five goals, respectively. TWU is coming off its second conference win of the season after topping West Texas A&M 3-2.
Texas A&M-Commerce currently sits at No. 3 in the LSC with a 10-3-3 record overall and a 6-3-1 showing in the conference. The Lions have two of the LSC's top three goal-scorers with Sophie Haywood who has scored eight times and Sabrina Munguia who has seven goals.
