Belles Honored at LSC Banquet

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State soccer team had 12 people honored at the Lone Star Conference Tournament Banquet Thursday night, including Player and Forward of the Year Trenadey Scott, Goalkeeper of the Year Sammy Cude, Co-Newcomer of the Year Cassandra Moosburger and Coach of the Year Travis McCorkle.

The Belles finished the regular season with a 12-3-1 record, winning the Lone Star Conference championship for the third time in program history. They had four players named to the All-LSC First Team, three on the All-LSC Second Team, one All-LSC Honorable Mention, and four players on the All-Academic Team.

Sophomore forward Trenadey Scott was named the conference's Player of the Year and Forward of the Year after leading the LSC in nearly every offensive category. Scott scored 15 goals, including five game-winners and recorded four assists for a total of 34 points. The Fort Worth native was also honored on the All-LSC First Team.

Second on the team in goals for the season was forward Cassandra Moosburger, who was named the conference's Co-Newcomer of the Year. Moosburger scored six goals and had two assists as well, playing in all 16 games so far this year. She was also named to the All-LSC Second Team.

Defensively, Angelo State sophomore Sammy Cude earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Cude has started every game this season and made 81 saves in that time. She has a goals against average of 1.06 and a save percentage of .828 for the year. Cude was also a First Team All-LSC performer.

Rounding out the special award winners from Angelo State was Coach of the Year Travis McCorkle. McCorkle led the Belles to their third LSC Championship in his tenure on the season, also earning his 150th career win in the process.It is the fourth time for McCorkle to win the award.

 Two other Belles besides Scott and Cude were named to the All-LSC First Team in defender Callie Smith and midfielder Elizabeth Rodriguez.

Smith is one of two ASU captains this season and played more minutes than any other field player. She played center back for the team and led the defense to a goals against average of 1.06.

Rodriguez started all 16 games as well, playing more than 1000 minutes overall. Rodriguez was tied for third on the team with three goals and had a pair of assists as well.

Representing the Belles on the All-LSC second team was four players, including Moosburger, Marissa Brezgiel, Analise Watson and Avery McNeme.

Brezgiel started 15 games on the back line for ASU and helped the defense limit opponents to just over a goal per game in her freshman season.

Watson played the most minutes of any midfielder on the team, scoring a pair of goals on the season.

McNeme had a strong start to her collegiate soccer career, scoring one goal and assisting four others on the season.

ASU Midfielder Morgan Sibson was also recognized at the banquet, earning All-LSC Honorable Mention honors. Sibson is a Belle captain and has played all 16 games this year. She has 14 shots including five on goal.

Four Angelo State players were also named to the LSC All-Academic team, including Smith, Rodriguez, Ally Warren and Loni Byers. These players have maintained a GPA of 3.30 or above in their collegiate careers while contributing to their team's success.

The Belles are the No. 1 seed and hosts for the 2017 LSC Tournament and will take on the No. 5 seed Eastern New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at the ASU Soccer Field.
