SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team will continue its 2017-18 schedule as it takes on McMurry on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Rams will enter the post break game with a 9-2 overall record and 2-1 in the Lone Star Conference. The team will be looking to build off its last win over Lubbock Christian. ASU is currently averaging 81.5 points per game as the Rams are hitting 50.5 percent of its shots inside the arch and 40.8 percent from long range. Defensively, the team is pulling down 37.8 boards per game and is forcing an average of 15.9 turnovers.Â
McMurry will be seeking to rebound from a pair of losses as they sit at 4-5 on the year. The War Hawks are scoring 74 points per game, while also shooting 45.8 percent from short range. The last time the two teams faced off, on December 14, 2015, the Rams post triple digits (115-68) against McMurry.
Ja'Michael Brown and Brandon Williams will be lead the Rams onto the court. Brown, who is averaging a team high 4.7 assists per game, is averaging 15.6 points per game. The junior has recorded the only 30-point game for Angelo State this season and has marked five games with 20 or more points to date. Williams has been a major factor on the defensive side of the ball as he has grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game. The big man has also tallied a team most 20 blocks thus far, while pocketing 11 steals as well. Offensively, he has contributed 12.6 points per game, shooting a team high 62.5 percent from 2-point range.
Playing a large factor in the Rams offensive success has been Will Adler, James Kirksey, Antonio Singleton and Daron Mims. Adler leads the squad with 3-pointers made (27) this season as he is knocking down 42.2 percent of his long-range shots. Overall, the junior is averaging 11 points per game and also leads the team making 90.9 percent of his free throws.
Kirksey is third on the list with 11.6 points per game as he is hitting a team second 56.3 percent of his shots inside the arch. He has also shared the rock with a team second 34 assists. Singleton has been the most efficient shooter from deep with a team leading 57.7 percent of his 3-balls made. From the charity stripe, he is shooting an ASU third 84.8 percent. He too has distributed well with a squad third 21 assists. Aiding the defense, he leads the team with 18 stolen balls. Rounding out the group, Mims has also been a major contributor averaging 10.2 points per game and is hitting over 50 percent from in the paint and the free throw line.
Finally, adding depth to the Rams lineup will be Ran Tut and Kiair Crouch. Tut is currently fourth on the team pulling down an average of 3.7 boards per game. He has also added 5.6 points per contest. Recently returning from being sidelined by injury, Crouch is averaging 4.1 points per game and has added depth to the point guard position.
