SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State Rams baseball team once again led NCAA Division II drawing record attendance numbers in 2017.
With a record 43,576 fans turning out to watch the team during its 37 home games, the Rams drew an average of 1,063 fans per competition.  This number led all of NCAA Division II, with a gap of 27,204 fans between ASU and the second spot held by Colorado Mesa. The number also placed ASU 49th overall in NCAA Division I, II, and III. This was a jump of 16 spots from the team 65th place attendance ranking in 2016.
The Rams average per game attendance placed them 65th overall ( NCAA Division I, II, III). This placed ASU ahead of several area Division I programs which includes the likes of Oklahoma, Sam Houston, Dallas Baptist, Abilene Christian, Lamar University, Incarnate Word, the University of Texas Arlington and Stephen Austin.
"We really appreciate all of our tremendous fans and all of the support our community provides," commented Head ASU Baseball Coach Kevin Brooks. "Our players feel special because of the support they receive and they strive to perform well for our fans. It is one of the biggest reasons that playing here at Angelo State is such a phenomenal experience."  Â
The 2017 Lone Star Conference Champions capped the season making a third consecutive and seventh overall run to the NCAA DII South Central Regional Tournament. This also included playing host to the 2017 South Central Regional tournament on Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium, which was a program first. The 2017 ASU team capped the year sending two players to the professional ranks and producing a D2CCA All-American third team selection.    Â
