SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State soccer team will open Lone Star Conference play this week with a two-game road trip, taking on Texas Permian Basin at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Odessa and facing Midwestern State at 8Â p.m. Friday in Wichita Falls.
The Belles ended the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 3-1-0 record, following a Sunday win against Southwestern Oklahoma State, 4-2.
Sophomore forward Trenadey Scott led the attack in the win, notching her second two-goal performance of the season against the Bulldogs. The pair of scores brought her season total to five, which surpasses the total she had in 2016.
Scott is now No. 5 in the nation with 1.25 goals per game and is first in the LSC with 10 total points. She has 18 total shots and nine on goal.
Angelo State has the top offense in the conference with 10 total goals, despite playing fewer games than all six other teams. The Belles average 15.25 shots and 6.5 shots on goal per game.
Two other Belles have multiple goals on the season in Cassandra Moosburger and Elizabeth Rodriguez. Both Moosburger and Rodriguez have scored twice this year, and both also have an assist for five total points per player.
The only other Angelo State player with a goal this season is Analise Watson, who scored the game-winner against New Mexico Highlands earlier this year.
Several Belles have assisted goals, however, including Mackenzie Broderick and Megan Allen, who got their first in the Sunday matchup with SWOSU, and freshman Avery McNeme.
A number of other Belles have created scoring opportunities during the season and gotten off shots, including Loni Byers, Adison McNeme, Tiffany Dang, Morgan Sibson, and Ally Warren.
Defensively, Angelo State is fourth in the conference with an average of 1.25 goals allowed per game and given up an average of 15 shots per game.
The back line is made up of Meagan Denn, Molly Warren, Kyah Carlsen, Janessa Dunbar, Callie Smith, Kylie Deel and Marissa Brezgiel.
Smith has the most minutes this season of any field player with 337 and has played the full 90 in back-to-back games.
ASU's defense is also helped by goalkeeper Sammy Cude, who is 3-1 on the year with 28 saves and just five goals allowed. The sophomore has a save percentage of .848.
Texas Permian Basin comes into the game with a 1-3-1 record, defeating Wayland Baptist for their only win. The Falcons have allowed the most goals in the LSC heading into conference play at 14.
Midwestern State is 4-1 on season with the only loss coming to No. 6 Colorado School of Mines. The Mustangs are second in the conference behind ASU with 1.8 goals per game.
