SAN ANGELO – The No.11 Angelo State volleyball team dropped its home match to No. 17 Tarleton State (28-26, 23-25, 23-25, 20-25) on Wednesday night.
The Belles slide to 8-4, 0-3 LSC with Wednesday night's loss, as the team attack was held to a season low .179 clip. Outside hitter Brianna Sotello surpassed the 1300 career kill mark and moved to fifth all-time in ASU history during the match. With the win, Tarleton State climbed to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the LSC.
Sotello capped the night tying a career high with a team leading 23 kills. She was the only Belle to record double figure kills for the night. The senior also co-led the team with a single service ace for the night as well. Defensively, her team second and season high 17 digs earned her a fourth double-double on the season.
Heading the ASU defense was Anna Graham, Morgan Seaton and Micheala Sifuentes. Graham tallied five total blocks for the night, while Seaton checked in with a squad most two solo blocks for a total of four blocks during the match. Seaton also added a team second nine kills. Completing the trio, Sifuentes led the Belles with 23 digs.
Meghan Parker set up the offense with 42 assists on the night. The sophomore assisted the defense and added nine digs to her stats. Eadara Files also assisted the attack adding a team second 12 assists.
Also aiding the team was Abbie Lynn, Jenna Markey and Bailey Mulder. Lynn checked in with a season most nine kills. Markey inked a team third and season most three total blocks, while Mulder chimed in with her second double-digit dig performance of the season capping the night with 10.
 ASU took an early 4-1 lead to open the first set with kills from Lynn, Sotello and Seaton. However, the TexAnns rallied back to take an 8-7 advantage. A pair of Sotello kills and a timely Seaton, Sotello block would push the Belles back in front, 11-9. TSU then returned fire as it played off of pair of Belle errors, adding a kill which allowed them to jump back in front,  12-11. The Belles briefly regained the lead, but would be unable to hold on with TSU overtaking agian. Facing the possibility of dropping the first set with ASU trailing 24-22, Seaton delivered a kill and an ace which was followed by a Lynn, Graham block. This sent the match into extra points. Tied at 26, Bailey Drum would fire in a kill to position the Belles for a final set point. Haley Coulter and Graham then put the set away for Angelo State with a monster block.
Building off the first set victory, Seaton got the Belles rolling in the second set with a kill to place ASU on the board first. The Angelo State lead would be short lived as the TexAnns crawled back into the set, Â taking a 5-4 lead over ASU. TSU did not look back as it continued to distance itself from the Belles. Unable to climb back into the driver's seat, Angelo State would relinquish the set leaving the match at an even set each.
As in the previous set, ASU started strong and maintained a sizable lead until TSU pieced together several small runs bringing the set to an even 22. The TexAnns would then score the final 4-of-5Â points giving it a 2-1 set lead in the match. In the final set, ASU once again maintained a sizable lead to start, Â but TSU would linger. Tied at 15, Tarleton State took over with five straight points. TSU would hold on and taking the final set and the win.
Angelo State will return to the Stephens Arena at the Junell center Friday, September 22 to take on the University of Texas – Permian Basin at 7 p.m. UTPB will enter the match sporting a 4-7, 1-2 LSC record, seeking to bounce back after a sweep at the hands of Midwestern State in Odessa, Texas.
