"I really liked the balance on our side of the net today," said Angelo State Head Coach Chuck Waddington. "Offensively we were terminal from different locations. All six of our attackers did a really nice job and hit for a high percentage. Our setters also did a nice job of distributing the ball and keeping the opposition off balance. We are getting better at taking care of each other and that is something that builds chemistry." Â
Brianna Sotello and Haley Coulter lead the potent attack for ASU as both turned in better than .400 clips for the match. Sotello, who turned in a .417 hitting percentage for the day, marked her fifth double-double of the season co-leading the team with 11 kills and a team-second 15 digs. The senior also marked a season high as she dropped in a pair of service aces. Coulter recorded a career high as she also co-led the attack with 11 kills on the day. Despite the Lady Buffs dropping in the first ball, ASU once again came out firing taking the early 3-1 advantage. WTAMU hung around but would be unable to pull closer than a single point of bringing the set back to even. Â With Files at the service line the Belles embarked on a massive 11-0 run that put the set out of reach at 23-11. Lynn and Sotello then rocketed in back to back kills to send the Belles into the break with a 2-0 set lead.
Coming out of intermission strong, ASU piled on five straight points to push ahead 5-1. The Belles would not look back as they continued the onslaught, adding another lengthy 10-0 run in the middle of the set to give them the 18-5 lead. Â This proved to be too much for the Lady Buffs to handle and with 23-12 on the board; a pair of West Texas A&M errors sealed the deal and sent ASU to the winners circle.
