SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State soccer team fought with West Texas A&M for 110 minutes in the rain Friday night but was unable to pull out in front, ending the game in a 2-2 stalemate.
The Belles (5-1-1, 2-0-1 LSC) outshot the Lady Buffs (3-2-3, 1-0-1 LSC) 19 to 14 on the night including a 12 to 9 advantage in shots on goal.
"The two times that we created goals were win we got the ball out wide, and I really liked that," Angelo State Head Soccer Coach Travis McCorkle said. "Avery did a really good job stepping up after Trenadey drew the foul, and then I thought Trenadey did a really good job of moving in the penalty area and it paid off on the goal she scored."
ASU was put in an early hole when Hannah Kelly scored her first goal of the season 16 minutes into the match.
It was freshman midfielder Avery McNeme and forward Trenadey Scott who helped to even the game back up 15 minutes later. Scott controlled the ball in the box and drew a foul from WT's Cheyenne Orozco. McNeme was called on to take the penalty kick and fired the ball in by the goalkeeper.
The goal was McNeme's first of her collegiate career. She ended the night with three shots and all were on goal.
Neither team was able to score again in the first half, so the Belles went into the break in a 1-1 deadlock with the Lady Buffs.
ASU got their first lead of the game 12 minutes into the second half, and Scott was once again involved in the attack. Midfielder Megan Allen pressed the ball forward out wide left of the goal and served in a cross that Scott re-directed into the back of the net. Allen was credited with her second assist of the season.
The goal was Scott's ninth of the season which leads the Lone Star Conference. Scott has averaged 2.86 scores per game on the season. She also tied for the team lead in shots with six and had five on goal for the night.
Midfielder Morgan Sibson also had six shots on the night, setting a season high. Three of the Arizona native's shots were on goal.
Megan Allen recorded the only other shot on goal against the Lady Buffs, but Cassie Moosburger, Analise Watson and Jacquelyn Ramirez all also had shots.
West Texas A&M pulled back even less than five minutes later, earning an indirect free kick in the penalty box and converting the opportunity.
The ASU defense kept WT off the board for the final 30 minutes of regulation and kept them off the board in both overtime periods as well, giving up just one shot in the final 20 minutes.
Callie Smith, Kyah Carlsen Molly Warren and Marissa Brezgiel made up the starting back line for Angelo State and the four were reinforced by Meagan Denn.
The Belles were unable to get the go-ahead goal either, despite getting off five shots in the two overtime periods, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.
Angelo State has another match at home this weekend, taking on Eastern New Mexico at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The game is the annual "Pink on the Pitch" match, as fans are encouraged to wear pink and will have the opportunity to donate to the National Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation during the game.
