SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State team earned a wire-to-wire win Saturday afternoon, defeating Dallas Christian 109-64 in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
The Rams (15-5, 6-4 LSC) scored early and often in the game, finishing with their highest point total in a single game since scoring 115 against McMurry on December 14, 2015.
Daron Mims got the game started for ASU with back-to-back buckets and Antonio Singleton followed with a layup of his own to give the Belles an early 6-0 lead and they would never look back.
Mims did not miss in the game hitting all six shots from the field, one from the arc and a pair of free throws. The Oklahoma City native added in a pair of rebounds and three assists as well.
The Crusaders pulled within two a few minutes later, but were unable to get the game-tying bucket before the Rams went on another run. With just over 13 minutes left in the opening half, ASU guard Kiair Crouch picked up a steal and hit William Tchiengang on the fast break for a dunk that put the team up by double digits for the first time in the game.
Although Dallas Christian fought back to within five again at the 11-minute mark, ASU responded again. Starting with a jumper from Will Adler with 9:38 left in the half, the Rams went on a 17-2 run over the next five minutes that included three-pointers from Crouch, Mims and Adler as well as a number of buckets inside from Brandon Williams and James Kirksey.
In a game that saw a lot of points scored, Kirksey had the most of any one player on floor, scoring 18 on 9 of 12 shooting with five rebounds and four assists.
The lead stayed around the 20-point mark for the remainder of the half as ASU got a three-pointer from Ran Tut and a reverse-dunk from Davion Cole-Johnson to stay ahead. When the buzzer sounded for halftime, the Rams were up 58-36.
Cole-Johnson was another of the five Rams who scored double-digit points who had 10.
Angelo State did not let up to start the second half, scoring 14 of the half's first 19 points and going up by more than 30 for the first time on a dunk from Williams with 16:42 remaining.
Following the Williams dunk, Adler took over, hitting from behind the arc on ASU's next three possessions and opening the lead up to 37 points.
Adler hit from downtown ÂÂÂfour times total in the game, finishing with 16 total points and pulling down three boards and adding three assists.
Four minutes later another Ram, Antonio Singleton, drained a three and ASU went up by 42. The Rams kept the lead above 40 points for the rest of the game, even getting up by as many as 51 points just after the two-minute mark.
Singleton scored 14 in the contest and contributed elsewhere with eight assists and five rebounds as well.
A number of other Rams contributed with points off the bench including Ryan Bradley (8) Tut (6), Michael Kirkland (5), and Caleb Henry (4). Overall, ASU got 40 points from non-starters.
When the final horn sounded, the Rams walked away with a commanding 109-64 win over the Crusaders.
The Rams will be on the road next taking on Cameron and 7:30 Thursday night in Lawton, Oklahoma.
