Belles Add 11 in 2018 Recruiting Class

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State soccer team signed 11 players in its spring 2018 recruiting class announced on Thursday.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Travis McCorkle added a pair of goalkeepers as well as nine field players from high schools in Texas and Colorado in the class that will begin play with the Belles for the 2018 season.

"We're very excited about this class," McCorkle said. "I think this is a good group who can complement what we already have. After seeing them play for their club teams and high school teams, I think they can contribute to keeping us near the top of the Lone Star Conference."

The goalkeepers in the class include Kira Miller and Lexi Burke who both come to ASU from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Miller plays for Reedy High School in Frisco where she was named her to the All-State Second Team, All-District First Team as well as earning the district's Goalkeeper of the Year award her junior season. She made 126 saves that year for a save percentage of .857.

Burke is the goalkeeper at Byron Nelson High School in Keller, but played at Monterey High School in Lubbock her freshman and sophomore season, winning the district championship both years. In her first season at Byron Nelson, Burke made 117 saves and recorded 11 shutouts throughout the season en route to an All-District Goalkeeper of the Year award as well as a First Team All-State selection.

On defense, Angelo State is adding Haley Moore, Kelsey Henning, Kylie Hampton, Maddison Kyle and Marissa Berry.

Moore is a senior from Hurst who plays at Birdville High School where she plays on the varsity golf team along with soccer. She was a Second Team All-District selection last season.

Kelsey Henning is another recruit from Frisco where she plays at Centennial High School where she played with Hampton, who is also coming to ASU. Henning also plays for the D'Feeters club team.

Centennial won the 5-A State Championship for the 2016 season, and Kylie Hampton was named to the UIL All-Tournament Team as well as the All-District Team for her performance. She repeated on the All-District Team the next season as well.

Maddison Kyle is a forward/defender from S.H. Rider High School in Wichita Falls. Kyle was the Newcomer of the Year in her district as a freshman at S.H. Rider and proceeded to win the districts Defensive MVP her next two seasons. She was also a Second Team All-State selection her junior season. Maddison's brother, Hunter, is a linebacker for the Ram football team.

Marissa Berry comes to ASU from Fate, Texas and Poteet High School where she has won a district championship team and earned First Team All-District selections three years in a row.

Offensively, Angelo State also added four newcomers to the mix in Gabriela Villagrand, Alison Navarro, Kiah Benham and Chloe Souza.

Villagrand is a forward from Spring Texas and plays for the Challenge Soccer Club as well as the HCYA Hurricanes, where she has won a pair of state titles.

Alison Navarro can play both midfielder and forward and will come to ASU from Belton High School in Temple. She has been a First Team All-District selection each of her last two seasons as well as an Academic All-District selection all three years of her high school career.

Kiah Benham is the only ASU signee from outside the state of Texas, coming to the Belles from Centennial, Colorado. Benham is a midfielder from Arapahoe High School where she was an Academic All State First Team selection and an honorable mention on the Centennial League team.

Chloe Souza is a forward who currently plays at Brewer High School in Fort Worth. Souza was a First Team All-District selection last season after leading the district in assists and ranking in the top 50 goal-scorers in all of 5-A.

The Belles are coming off 13-5-1 season that saw them win their third Lone Star Conference title and advance to the NCAA Tournament and will look to build upon that success with these 11 newcomers.
