Belles Erase 3-0 Deficit to Beat Roadrunners

DENVER – The Angelo State tennis team came back from down 3-0 against Metropolitan State Sunday afternoon to win 5-4.

With the win, the Belles are now 11-5 on the season and won all three matches in Colorado this weekend.

It was the doubles competition that put ASU down early as MSU-Denver came out hot and took all three points.

The Belles made their comeback in the singles portion of the match.

Zoe Gubbels began the comeback on court three, with a two-set win in her match. Maria Delgadillo followed with a win of her own on court two, putting ASU down just 3-2.

On court one, Ena Ovcina lost in set one, but took set two to force a decisive third set. The Sweden native took the third set, tying up the match with three points left on the table.

Yasmine Ansari fell in her singles match to give the Roadrunners the lead once again, but only briefly.

Lucie Maitrot took the next point, tying the match again at 4-4 and bring everything down to Virginie Becht's court.

Becht took the first set and went up 4-1 in the second set, but then lost three straight sets to tie at 4-4. The Florida native took the next set to regain her lead at 5-4. Becht then finished off the set with a win, securing the overall victory for the Belles.
