SAN ANGELO, TX – #2 Angelo State will host #1 Colorado Mesa for the South Central Super Regional on May 24 and 25. The tournament schedule is as follows:
Game 1 – Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m.
Game 2 – Saturday, May 25 at 3:30 p.m.
Game 3 (if needed) – Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
Tickets will be open for sale at Wednesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. at the Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium Ticket Office.
The Rams advanced to the Super Regional after winning three of the four games in the South Central Regional Tournament and eliminating Lubbock Christian and Rogers State. They are now 45-10 for the season.
Regional Performance
Angelo State batted .366 as a team and were led in average by Lachlan Mayo who hit at a .579 clip, going 11-19. The Sydney senior also connected for two doubles, a triple, a home run, and eight RBI. Riley Peterson, Parker Bramlett, Josh Elvir, and Jackson Hardy all hit at an average of at least .400 as well.
Trent Baker, Fabian Muniz, and Tyler Lesley were the star features on the mound for the Rams. Baker led the tournament off with a complete nine inning game performance in which he limited the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals to just one run on nine hits while striking out five. Lesley earned the start in game three and threw for 7.1 innings against the Rogers State Hillcats and gave up three runs while striking out eight to lead the Rams to a 13-6 victory. Muniz was the bullpen star of the tournament, coming in for relief in the winner take all game against the Hillcats. The California naïve entered the game in the third inning with his team down 10-5, but then stifled the bats of his opposition by giving up only two hits and no runs in six innings.
Colorado Mesa Mavericks
The Mavericks enter the South Central Super Regional with a 48-9 record after eliminating both West Texas A&M and Colorado School of Mines in the other half of the South Central Regional Tournament.
Mesa owns the seventh highest team batting average in the nation and are led by three First-Team South Central Region players in the form of Jordan Stubbings, Will Dixon, and Garrett Hutson.
Stubbings leads the Mavericks offensively in run production with 52 RBI on the season. He has collected 13 home runs, 19 doubles, and a triple in his 205 at bats this season. He has struck out only 22 times this season. Stubbings is followed closely by Hunter Douglas who has also hit 13 home runs and trails his teammate by only 10 points with a .361 batting average.
Hutson stars as the Mesa ace this season, boasting a 3.00 era in 78 innings of while. He has struck out 97 batters and walked only 17. Hutson has shown his ability to preserve the Maverick bullpen with his five complete game performances. Â Will Dixon enters the frame a closer with a .55 ERA, .76 WHIP, and 14 saves. He has struck out 45 while walking only 7. Hitters are currently batting .153 against him.
