SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team will kick off the new year at home, as the Rams return to action to face Oklahoma Christian in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader on Sunday and Monday at Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
Games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday but had to be pushed back a day due to inclement weather and travel conditions for Oklahoma Christian. Both games tip-off at 3:30 p.m.
LAST WEEK:
The Rams have had some time off, last competing on Dec. 18 and 19 against Texas A&M – Kingsville which they split the series against. ASU took game one 83-66 for its first win of the season while the Javelinas took game two 79-67.
Sam Baker led the Rams in the win, scoring a game-high 27 points while the defense held TAMUK to only 36 percent shooting from the floor.

ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Rams and Eagles met for the first time last season in a game ASU won 71-61 in Edmonds Oklahoma to lead the all-time series 1-0. Oklahoma Christian was a member of the Heartland Conference before moving to the LSC prior to the 2019-20 season.
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN:
The Eagles enter the weekend with a 0-2 record to start the season, dropping two contests against Lubbock Christian on Dec. 18 and 19. OC had its first weekend postponed against Texas A&M International. Lubbock Christian took an 82-70 victory in game one before following that up with an 80-67 win in game two.
Oklahoma Christian struggled offensively against LCU, averaging 68.5 points after two games, ranking 13
th in the league in scoring average while giving up the ninth most points at 81 per game.
The Eagles currently have three players averaging double figures in points with Elijah Elliott leading the way with 16 points per game. Nyk Madison is averaging 12 points while Anthony Johnson adds 10.5 points per game. Elliott has made six three-pointers, shooting .400 from beyond the arc, while the Eagles have combined for 14 made threes.
OC has done well to protect the ball, giving up the fourth-fewest turnovers while ranking sixth in turnover margin in the conference at plus-1.5.
GETTING TO THE LINE:
Angelo State has found some early season success getting to the free-throw line, ranking second in the league in free throws made with 72. The Rams are shooting .699 from the line as a team with
Salisu Yahaya leading with a percentage of .810, shooting 17-of-21.
RAMS OVERVIEW:
Angelo State is average 77.8 points per game through the first two weekends of play. Baker leads the offense, averaging 17.5 points per game. He has scored 18-plus points in three of the four contests this season, making 10 threes so far this season. Behind him,
Paul Williams is averaging 9.5 points per game while collecting 14 assists which is tied for fifth-most in the Lone Star Conference. Yahaya is also averaging nine points per game while tying for the most rebounds on the team with 15 total along with Williams who has also collected 15.
The Rams are fifth in the league in assists with 49 and hold the fifth-best field goal percentage at .478. ASU has also scored the fifth-most field goals with 107 on the season.
On the other side of the ball, the Rams have held their own defensively, recording the fifth-most steals in the LSC with 14 on the season while ranking sixth in blocks with eight. ASU is positive in turnover margin at plus-0.25 which ranks eighth, while Baker is sixth in the league in steals with seven.
