SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University men's basketball team ends the regular season on the road at Western New Mexico University and the University of Texas Permian Basin on Thursday, February 27 and Saturday, February 29, respectively. Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m. Central Standard Time on Thursday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Series History
Angelo State and Western New Mexico will meet up for the second time this season on the hardwood. The Mustangs enter the weekend 7-19 overall and 6-14 in Lone Star Conference action while the Rams enter with an 18-6 record overall and 14-6 in LSC play. The last time these two teams met was on January 4, 2020 with the Rams claiming a 92-79 victory to start the New Year. Five ASU players scored in double figures to contribute to the victory.

The Rams and Falcons meet for the second time this season on the court as well. The two teams met back on January 2, 2020 to start the New Year with the Blue and Gold taking an 85-77 victory over the Falcons. ASU had four players score in double figures, including
Collin Turner with 27 points.
Andres Ibarguen registered a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. UTPB enters the contest with a 15-14 record overall and an 8-12 record in conference action.

Angelo State went 2-0 over the weekend defeating Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Thursday, 80-73, followed by Texas A&M International University, 79-69. Turner dominated the Ram offense, scoring a career and season-high 44 points against the Javelinas to tie for third most points scored in a single game in program history. He finished 11-of-18 from the field, including 6-of-9 from the three-point arc, and 16-of-17 from the free throw line. Ibarguen assisted on offense with 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Against the Dustdevils, four players scored in double figures and three of them tallied double-doubles. Turner led the Ram scorers with 22 points while Ibarguen registered his 11
th double-double on the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Marcel Pettway and
Camron Reedus also recorded double-doubles. Pettway scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Reedus finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Ibarguen continues to tear it up for the Rams as he averages 9.9 rebounds and 13.4 points per game. He registered 11 double-doubles this season and ranks second in the conference. The 6-5 forward shows consistency from the field as he leads the conference and ranks fifth in the nation for field goal percentage with a .678. On the boards, Ibarguen leads the nation and the conference for offensive rebounds per game with a 5.13 average. He ranks second in the conference for rebounds per game with a 9.9 average and for total rebounds with 238.

Turner leads the Ram offense with 17.3 points per game and ranks seventh in the conference. He ranks eighth in the conference for free throw percentage with a .800. He leads the team with 42 steals as well. The 6-1 guard has played and started in 23 games for the Rams and averages 35.0 minutes a game.

The Rams are in a three-way tie for third place in the conference with Texas A&M- Kingsville and Lubbock Christian. If the Rams go 2-0 on the weekend, they will take the third-place spot and receive an automatic bye to Frisco, Texas for the second round of the conference tournament. If they go 1-1, they will move to either third or fourth place, depending on how LCU and TAMUK play. Worst case scenario, if the Rams fall in both games, they will move to fifth place and host the first round. The conference tournament begins on Tuesday, March 3 at the higher seed's campus with the top-four seeds receiving byes to Frisco. The second round begins on Friday, March 6.
