SAN ANGELO – The Belles, who only have three matches left in their regular season schedule, look to solidify their place in the LSC standings ahead of the LSC Tournament. The Belles face a difficult schedule to end their season, with matches against teams that currently sit second, fourth and fifth in the standings.
The Belles are 11-2-2 in conference play and 6-2-2 in LSC play; they are third in the LSC standings on 20 points.
The matchup this weekend between Texas Woman's and the Belles will see the two best defenses in the LSC face off against each other. The Belles have only allowed nine goals while Texas Woman's has only allowed 10 goals this season, first and second in the conference, respectively; both teams have recorded nine shutouts this season, tied for most in the LSC.
Avery McNeme and
Valerie Solis are first and second in the conference with nine and seven assists on the season, respectively. McNeme's five goals also leads the team.
Solis, along with
Grace Jordan,
Cindy Rodriguez, and
Gabby Villagrand, all have four goals on the season, with Villagrand responsible for two goals this past week as she was named the conference's offensive player of the week for the first time in her career.
On the defensive side of the field, the pairing of
Cassidy Hill and
Kylie Hampton have only allowed 6.26 shots per game, while
Kira Miller's nine shutouts and .583 goals against average both lead the LSC. The senior shot-stopper has made 31 saves this season and has been named the conference's goalkeeper of the week three times this season, including this past week for a pair of shutouts against Lubbock Christian and UT Tyler.
The Pioneers are 11-2-2 overall and 8-2 in conference play; their 24 conference points put them second in the standings, only three points behind leaders DBU.
The Pioneers have won their past five matches by a combined score of 13-6; they are 5-2-1 at home, with losses to St. Mary's and DBU as well as a draw against Colorado-Mines.
The Belles are 10-7-1 against the Pioneers under head coach
Travis McCorkle, who earned his 200
th career win this past Saturday against UT Tyler. The Belles last faced the Pioneers in 2019 in Denton, losing 1-0; their last win in Denton came in 2017, a 3-1 victory.
The Pioneers offense is powered by Keely Chapman and Alyssa Simien, with both scoring seven times this season; the pair is responsible for 14 of the Pioneers' 24 goals this season.
In between the sticks, Alex Jacinto has seven shutouts this season and has made 22 saves with a goals against average of .640 per game.
After this weekend, the Belles wrap up their regular season with a road trip to St. Edward's next Wednesday before hosting Midwestern State next Saturday.
