Dallas, Texas – The Belles, coming off a euphoric road win over Texas Woman's in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament, advance to the semifinals of the LSC Tournament, which will be hosted by DBU.
The Belles, the six-seed in the tournament, will face seventh-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce in the semifinals on Friday (7:30 p.m. start time, broadcast on the LSC Network), with top-seed DBU facing four-seed West Texas A&M in the other semifinal on Friday.
The Belles' defense has only allowed 14 goals this season, the best mark in the LSC this season. Goalkeeper
Kira Miller leads the conference in shutouts (10) and goals against average (.709).
The Belles' offense this season has run through
Avery McNeme. In addition to scoring last night's game-winning goal, the senior has eight goals this season to go with nine assists, contributing to 41.4 percent of all Belles goals this season.
Grace Jordan has five goals for the Belles this season and
Valerie Solis has eight assists to go with four goals from the midfield.
The winner of the Belles' matchup versus Texas A&M-Commerce will face the winner of DBU-West Texas A&M on Sunday for the LSC Championship
SCOUTING THE LIONS
The Lions and the Belles tied in their last matchup, a 2-2 draw back on October 16
th in Commerce. These two teams have met twice in a neutral site matchup, with the Belles winning 2-0 in Wichita Falls back in 2010 while the Lions won the next year in Abilene on penalty kicks.
Karalie Morrison and Leslie Campuzano, who both scored against the Belles in their last match, are fourth and sixth, respectively, in the LSC with 12 goals for Morrison and 10 goals for Campuzano.
The Commerce defense has allowed 1.63 goals per match this season, worst among all teams that made the LSC Tournament.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
DBU is 16-2 on the season and first in the latest edition of the regional rankings. Their lone two losses this season have come to Lubbock Christian and UC-Colorado Springs, who are second in the regional rankings.
The Patriots are second in the LSC with 60 goals scored this season and have only conceded 15 goals, also second in the conference.
Ashley Merril is third in the conference with 13 goals this season, and teammate Abigail Olmos is tied with McNeme with nine assists on the season, third in the LSC. Goalkeeper Hailey Brown has a .714 goals against average, second in the conference behind Miller.
The Belles dropped their matchup this season, 2-1, in Dallas but bested the Patriots in overtime this past spring to claim the LSC Championship.
SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M boasts one of the best offenses in all of Division II, led by forward Hannah Kelley-Lusk's 26 goals and 10 assists in 17 matches. Her 26 goals are more goals than any team scored this season that did not make the LSC Tournament.
The Belles won their lone matchup this season on their home field, 2-1, with Solis and
Breanne Bittick scoring in that match. In addition to Kelley-Lusk, teammate Asha James has 14 goals this season and Emily Avila has six assists this season.
