Rams Travel to TAMUK for Opening Round of LSC Tournament

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team is set for the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament as the fifth-seeded Rams travel to take on fourth-seeded Texas A&M – Kingsville on Tuesday, Mar. 2 at the Gil E. Steinke Center.
 
LAST WEEK:
The Rams closed out the regular season on a three-game win streak, defeating Texas A&M – Commerce at home before traveling to take two games from Texas A&M International to top it off. Kevon Godwin scored 10-plus points in all three games while adding eight assists and five steals.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Angelo State leads 58-55, Last Meeting: TAMUK, 79-67
The Rams and Javelinas have met twice during the 2020-21 season with each team picking up a win. Angelo State opened the home portion of the season against TAMUK, winning in game one of the two game series 83-66 while the Javelinas took game two 79-67. The Rams have been dominant in the series as of late, winning 12 of the last 16 matchups against TAMUK.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M - KINGSVILLE:
The Javelinas finished the regular season with a 12-2 record to earn fourth-seed in the tournament. Of their two losses on the season, one came against the Rams while the other was a 61-60 loss to UT Tyler last weekend.
 
TAMUK held the top defense in the Lone Star during the season, holding opponents to an average of 63.8 points per game while ranking third in turnover margin at plus-2.69, and third in rebounding with 36.1 boards per game. Offensively, the Javelinas sit in seventh in the LSC with 75.6 points per game, just behind Angelo State.
 
Creighton Avery leads the Javelinas with 13.4 points per game followed Jordan Wilson with 11.5 points per game. Will Chayer leads the squad in rebounds with 6.5 to go along with 10.1 points per game.
 
TOURNAMENT HISTORY:
This will be the 34th appearance for the Rams in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, and the eighth consecutive appearance, dating it back to the 2013-14 season.
