SAN ANGELO – The Belles, coming off a pair of home wins this past weekend against Colorado Christian and Colorado State – Pueblo, hit the road for the first time this season when they travel up to Oklahoma for matches against East Central on Thursday and Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
The Tigers of East Central are 0-1 on the season, dropping their season opener at Rogers State last Thursday by a score of 2-1. This past spring, the Tigers went 4-6 in the shortened season, making the semifinals of the GAC Tournament.
Lorianne Baugh scored the Tigers' lone goal off an Abbie Morris assist, while goalkeeper Baylee Hensley recorded a save.
The Belles wrap up the weekend with a visit to Southwestern Oklahoma State, who are 1-1 on the season, with a home win against Northeastern State followed by a close 1-0 loss to Central Missouri, also at home.
The Bulldogs went 4-4-1 this past spring and have had three different players score their three goals this season so far. Ashley Hughes has stopped 19 shots on goals in two games, with the Bulldog defense facing 44 total shots.
The Belles went 5-0 this past spring away from the ASU Soccer Field; under head coach
Travis McCorkle, the Belles are 3-0 against East Central as well as going 5-0-1 against Southwestern Oklahoma State, recording a pair of road wins against both squads.
The offense for the Belles this season has spread the wealth around this season, with seven different goalscorers –
Neleh Coleman,
Katie Detmer,
Kylie Hampton,
Katelin Heise,
Grace Jordan,
Cindy Rodriguez and
Madison Stokes – all finding their name on the scoresheet, with Coleman, Detmer, Jordan and Heise all scoring their first collegiate goals this past weekend.
Valerie Solis and
Avery McNeme have assisted three and two goals, respectively, with Coleman,
Mariah Griffin and
Madison Maxey each also adding in an assist of their own.
Defensively, the center back pairing of Hampton and
Cassidy Hill has only allowed eight shots in a combined 348 minutes on the pitch, and goalkeeper
Kira Miller has made five saves so far this season and was named the Lone Star Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week for her performances this past weekend.
Following this weekend, the Belles return to the pitch on September 18
th against New Mexico Highlands.
