No. 23 Rambelles Begin Postseason with Rematch vs Midwestern State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – As the postseason begins, the Angelo State women's soccer team hosts Midwestern State in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1st at 7 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW
  • The Rambelles went 1-1 last week, beating sixth seeded St. Edward's 2-1 behind goals from Reagan Urbany and Valerie Solis before dropped to Midwestern State 2-0 on the road.
  • Urbany now has seven goals on the season, tied with sophomore Grace Jordan for most on the squad. The pair are tied for sixth most in the conference.
  • Jordan's six game-winning goals still hold the best mark in the LSC.  
  • Katelin Heise, Cindy Rodriguez, and Solis share the team lead with four assists this season, they are tied for seventh in the LSC.
  • Kira Miller broke the Angelo State all-time saves record last Tuesday against St. Edward's. She now holds the Belles all-time saves (302), shutouts (38), and wins (56) titles.
  • Miller sits first in the LSC with 10 shutouts this season, ranking top three in all of NCAA DII.
  • Hill and Miller have each played all 1,620 minutes of the 2022 season.
  • The Belles have outscored their opponents 29-11 through 18 games, averaging 1.61 goals per contest, only allowing opponents 0.61, the second-best mark in the conference.
  • Jordan and Miller earned LSC honors after wins against Eastern New Mexico and St. Mary's in match week five.
  • Hill was recognized as the LSC Defensive Player of the Week in match week four after shutting out both Texas A&M International and Oklahoma Christian.
  • Miller also earned LSC Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a shutout and six saves in match week two against Colorado School of Mines and Regis.
  • Miller and backline staple Cassidy Hill were announced as LSC preseason Goalkeeper and Defender of the year, both for the second consecutive season.
  • Czarnecki and Rodriguez have announced that they will be utilizing their COVID year, utilizing their extra season of eligibility.
  • Czarnecki and Hill were announced as captains for the 2022 campaign.
  • ASU returns 19 of 28 letterwinners from the 2021 season which saw them advance to the second round of the NCAA DII National Tournament.
  • Head Coach Travis McCorkle enters his 15th season at the helm of the Belles program, looking to add more hardware following the team's second consecutive LSC Tournament Championship.
  • Assistant Coach Harold Muñoz enters his sixth season with the Belles, and Avery McNeme enters the coaching ranks as the Belles graduate assistant following five years on the pitch.
 
ANGELO STATE vs. MIDWESTERN STATE
  • The Mustangs increased their slight advantage all time against the Rambelles with a win last Saturday, holding a 19-16-7 record.
  • MSU won last season in Wichita Falls 2-0 behind goals from Lexi Beck and Isabella Cruz.
  • The Belles outshot the Mustangs 13 to eight in the contest, but only were able to turn two of those opportunities on goal.
  • The MSU offense runs through Lexi Beck who currently has three goals and six assists on the season, her six assists rank second most in the LSC.
  • Brynn Covington is the Mustangs leading goal scorer with four on the year.
  • Lexi Jackson is the only keeper to have registered playing time this year, she has four shutouts and has a .750 save percentage.
  • The Mustangs are the seventh seed in the conference tournament field after their 5-6-1 conference record.
  • The winner of this matchup will travel to Dallas to face the winner of the West Texas A&M, St. Edwards match in the semi-finals on Friday, Nov. 4th at 7:30 p.m.
