Rams to Compete in Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic

SAN ANGELO – For the first time since December 2018, the Angelo State men's basketball team travels to Las Vegas, Nevada, to participate in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic this weekend, where they will face two out-of-region opponents.

The Rams are 7-1 this season and are 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play. The Rams have won their past six contests, having suffered their only defeat of the season over a month ago, on November 12th against Fort Lewis.

The Rams are averaging 76 points per game while only allowing opponents to score 63.9 points per game, both of which are third-best in the LSC. They are shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from the three-point line.

The Rams rank second in the conference in field goal percentage defense, as they hold opponents to a 39.9 percent mark from the field; they also rank second in rebounding margin (+7.8 RPG) and steals per game (9.6).

Kevon Godwin leads the Rams in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game on 40 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent from three-point range. The Floridian guard is eighth in the conference in scoring and ranks second in steals per game (2.0) and fourth in minutes per game (33.8).

Reggie Quezada and Fredelin De La Cruz also average double digits in scoring, with Quezada scoring 12.6 points per game while De La Cruz tallies 11.1 points per contest. De La Cruz is second in the LSC with 8.1 rebounds per game and has recorded three double-doubles this season.

The Rams boast four players – Godwin, Quezada, Willie Guy, and Steve Webb – who all average 2.5 assists per game. The quartet is responsible for 80 of the Rams' 113 assists this season.
 
SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
Le Moyne, located in Syracuse, New York, is a member of the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10); the Dolphins are 7-5 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

The Dolphins score 75.4 points per game on 44.6 percent shooting from the field and 34.9 percent from three-point range; defensively, they hold opponents to 67.2 points per game on 44.4 percent shooting.

Luke Sutherland is the Dolphins' leading scorer and rebounder. The Syracuse native averages 13.4 points per game and grabs 5.2 boards per game. Teammate Isaiah Salter scores 11.4 points per game and leads the Dolphins with 3.6 assists per game.
The Rams' last game in Las Vegas was on December 19th, 2018, when the Dolphins defeated the Rams 64-54.
 
SCOUTING THE YELLOWJACKETS
Montana State – Billings is 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) play; they have a win over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 13 Cal State San Marcos 68-64 back on November 12th.

The Yellowjackets score 71.2 points per game while conceding 71.3 points per game to opponents. They shoot 46.3 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three, while opponents shoot 46.3 percent from the field and 42.2 percent from deep against the Yellowjackets.

Carrington Wiggins leads the Yellowjackets with 17.8 points per game. The Flint, Michigan native has scored double digits in all but one game this season and has crossed the 20-point threshold four times, including in three of the past four games.

Bilal Shabazz and Steven Richardson average 11.7 and 11.4 points per game, respectively; Shabazz leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game, while Richardson shoots a team-best 53.7 percent from the field.

This marks the first-ever matchup between the Yellowjackets and the Rams.
 
Following this weekend, the Rams return to action after the Christmas holiday in New Mexico to take on Western New Mexico on December 30th and Eastern New Mexico on January 1st.
