Rams Travel to UAFS, Oklahoma Christian for Final Road Games in LSC Play

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State men's basketball team hits the road for the last time before the Lone Star Conference tournament, facing UAFS Thursday and Oklahoma Christian Saturday.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Rams beat Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday in a tightly contested matchup, before falling at home to a scrappy Texas A&M International side. Paul Williams and Dante Moses spearheaded the Rams to victory over the Javalinas with 19 and 17 points respectively. The Rams committed 18 turnovers en route to their first loss to the Dustdevils.

All-Time Series: ASU leads the all-time series 2-1.
Last Meeting: Feb. 15, 2020: UAFS, 83-82  – Fort Smith, Ark
The two sides did not meet during the shortened 2020 season. The Lions won a tightly contested battle in their most recent matchup. This will only be the fourth meeting between the two sides.
 
SCOUTING UAFS:
UAFS enter the week 12-10 on the year and stand 6-4 in conference play. They have conference wins over West Texas A&M, St. Edwards, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M Kingsville, Western NM, and Cameron. All four of the Lions losses in LSC play have been by less than 10 points, most recently, to St. Mary's, 73-67.
 
On offense, the Lions rank 13th in the conference in scoring, putting up 71.8 points per game. Defensively, UAFS ranks second, allowing only 64.2 points per contest. The Lions shoot 46 percent from the field, while holding opponents to 42 percent. UAFS makes 6.9 threes per game, shooting at a clip of .376. The Lions also take care of the ball, hosting a 1.33 assist/turnover ratio, second best in the LSC.
 
The Lions Matthew Wilson leads the LSC in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game. He and Chris Rollins, who puts in 13.5 points a contest, will carry the scoring load for UAFS. Rollins also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down seven a game. Evan Anderson will create shots for the Lions, he averages 4.8 assists per game.

The Rams have taken every contest between these two sides in a rather young series. The Rams took both games in the 2020-21 season, along with the first meeting between the two sides in 2019.
 
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN:
OC is currently 8-15 on the season, holding a 4-8 record in Lone Star games, having beaten Cameron, UAFS, Texas A&M International, and most recently St. Mary's. The Eagles are currently on the outside looking in at a conference tournament berth as they sit in 13th (top 12 teams advance to the LSC tournament).
 
Oklahoma Christian ranks last in points per game, scoring 67.7 per contest, while allowing 73.5 per game. Their -5.7 margin is third worst in the Lone Star. As a team, the Eagles shoot .454 from the field and .341 from beyond the arc.
 
Drew Tennial and Moun'tae Edmundson are the leading scorers for OC, averaging 13.2 and 12.4 respectively. Tennial also pulls down 6.9 rebounds per contest, fifth in the LSC, while Edmundsn dishes out 3.4 assists per game to lead the Eagles. Nyk Madison averages 1.4 blocks per game, third best in the conference.
