TUCSON, Ariz. – The Angelo State women's golf team wrapped up play in Tucson early this afternoon, finishing 11
th overall in a competitive field at the West Texas A&M Desert Invite.
The Belles shot an identical first round to their last time out at the Lion Invitational, posting a 316 (+28), leaving them in a competitive position heading into the second round of action. Day two struggles again hindered the blue and gold, seeing the team drop two positions, finishing 11
th at 642 (+66).
Maria Sierra Sanz finished top for the Belles, 28
th overall at 157 (+13).
Patrizia Schaefer finished second for the Belles 160 (+16) over two rounds.
Ozlyan Juarez and
Laura Kilmova would round out the scoring for ASU shooting 162 (+18) and 163 (+19) respectively.
Round 1
A first-round 316 (+28) would leave the Belles in the middle of the pack after day one. The Belles sat ninth in the 18 team field, 14 strokes off the leaders from Colorado Christian. Juarez turned in the best first-round for the Belles with a 77 (+5) on the Mountain Course, shooting 13 pars. Sierra Sanz shot a 78 (+6) and Kilmova turned in an 80 (+8) with a team-leading three birdies.
Round 2
The second round would pose more problems than the first as the Belles shot 10 over their first-round score, shooting a 326 (+38). Sierra Sanz and Schaefer both shot a 79 (+7) in round two, the top scores on the team. Juarez and Kilmova both shot in the 80s in round two.
The Belles will take on the Lone Star Conference Championship next; the tournament runs Apr. 20-23 in Glen Rose, Texas.
