Rams Continue Homestand with Midwestern State, Cameron

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team continues their home schedule this weekend when they welcome Midwestern State into the Junell Center on Thursday night before hosting Cameron on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams are 11-3 on the season and are 7-1 in conference play. They are only one of two teams in the LSC to have suffered only one loss in conference play. Additionally, the Rams are 6-0 on their home court this season and have an eight-game winning streak dating back to last season.

The Rams are scoring 75 points per game; they shoot 44.9 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from three. They are coming off their best two-game stretch offensively when they 56.4 percent as a team in their wins over West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian.

The Rams boast the conference's best shooting defense, as they hold opponents to 40.7 percent shooting from the field; they also pace the LSC in rebounding margin, out-rebounding opponents by 7.1 rebounds per game.

Reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Week Kevon Godwin leads the Rams' offense with 15.5 points per game, sixth in the LSC. The guard is shooting 40.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep and has scored in double digits in 11 of the Rams' 14 games this season. The Rams are 9-2 this season when he scores ten or more points.

Fellow guard Reggie Quezada scores 13 points per game. The New Yorker leads the team with 2.6 assists per game and shoots 45.3 percent from the field. Fredelin De La Cruz scores 9.8 points per game and grabs a team-high 6.7 rebounds per contest, while Devaughn Thomas is coming off a two-game stretch in which he averaged 11.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in the wins over the Buffs and the Chaps.

Steve Webb, the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week, is second in the LSC this season with 1.9 steals per game. The St. Louis native led a Rams defense that held two high-powered offenses in WT and LCU to a combined 39.3 percent from the field.

This weekend sees the homestand end for the Rams, as they hit the road for three games in six days next weekend, taking on St. Mary's on Thursday, St. Edward's on Saturday and UT Permian Basin on Tuesday.
 
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is 8-7 on the season and 5-4 in conference play. They are currently riding a three-game winning streak, with victories over Lubbock Christian, Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico.

The Mustang defense is the most disciplined in the conference, as they only commit 14.2 fouls per game. Opponents shoot 40.8 percent against the Mustangs and score 63.7 points per game.

The Mustangs are led by a trio of all-LSC performers in Jermane Carter, Pierre Sanders and Luke Hamilton. Sanders and Carter are the top scorers for the Mustangs, averaging 11.3 and 10.8 points per game, respectively.

The Rams are 30-50 all-time against the Mustangs; last season, the Rams overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat the Mustangs 75-73 inside the Junell Center.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron is 2-13 on the season and still seeking their first conference win, as they currently sit 0-9 in LSC play; losers of their last 11 games, their only wins this season came against Southwestern Oklahoma and Rogers State.

The Aggies average 70.9 points per game on 45.8 percent shooting from the field; they are led in scoring by DeSean Munson's 12.3 points per game and Caylen Goff-Brown's 11.2 points per contest.

Munson has scored ten or more points in 13 of the Aggies' 15 games this season; the junior forward is shooting 57 percent from the floor this season.

The Rams are 31-19 all-time against the Aggies. Last season, the Rams claimed an 89-83 win in Lawton. The Rams have won the past three matchups, all of which have taken place in Lawton. The Rams have not defeated the Aggies inside the Junell Center since 2017.
