Richardson, Texas – Coming off a 2-0 weekend in which the Angelo State men's basketball team claimed wins over West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian, the Rams sweep the Lone Star Conference weekly awards, with
Kevon Godwin being named the conference's offensive player of the week while
Steve Webb claimed the defensive honors, the conference announced this morning.
Godwin, the conference offensive player of the week for the second time this season, scored 18.5 points per game on 13-of-22 shooting from the field and 6-of-11 from three-point range. Godwin shot 59.1 percent from the field, and 48.6 percent from three-point range as the Rams turned in a two-game stretch in which they shot 56.4 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from three as a team.
On the season, the Florida native averages 15.5 points per game, which ranks sixth in the conference.
Webb, the three-time GLVC Defensive Player of the Week, earns his first weekly honor as a Ram. Against the Buffs, Webb recorded two steals as the Rams held the Buffs to 40 percent shooting from the field, their lowest mark in conference action this season, for the Rams' first win over the Buffs in San Angelo since 2016. Against the Chaps, Webb added three steals, and the Chaps shot a season-low 38.7 percent from the field. Webb is second in the LSC on the season with 1.9 steals per contest.
This is the second time this season that the Rams have swept both weekly awards, with Godwin and
Fredelin De La Cruz doing so on December 5
th. Godwin becomes the first Ram since Collin Turner in the 2019-20 season to win multiple weekly awards in one season.
This also marks the first time the Rams have swept the conference weekly awards twice in a single season since the 2009-10 season, where the Rams swept the awards on November 24
th, 2009, and February 15
th, 2010.
The Rams are home this weekend for games against Midwestern State and Cameron.
