SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State men's basketball team close out their longest home stand of the fall tomorrow afternoon when they welcome UT Permian Basin into the Junell Center - Stephens Arena for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
LAST WEEK IN RAMS BASKETBALL
The Rams improved to 4-0 in LSC play with a pair of home wins last weekend over UAFS and Oklahoma Christian. Four players averaged double-digit scoring for the week, led by
Kevon Godwin's 15.5 points per game. Godwin also assisted nine time and recorded five steals, both team highs for the weekend.
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson averaged 14.5 points per game while
Trey Farrer scored 12 points per game and
Willie Guy chipped in 11.5 per contest. Guy scored 20 points against Oklahoma Christian, a new career-high for the senior point guard.
DEFENSIVE BATTLE
Tomorrow's contest could prove to be a war of offensive attrition as the Rams lead the league in field goal percentage defense (38.2 percent) and three-point percentage defense (27.9 percent), while the Falcons lead the LSC in scoring defense, only allowing opponents to score 64.7 points per game.
FAMILIAR FOE
The Rams' coaching staff faces a familiar foe on the opposing bench in head coach Kyle Tolin. Tolin, like Rams head coach
Vinay Patel and associate head coach
Mark Rutledge, coached in the GAC before joining the LSC, leading Arkansas-Monticello to the 2021 GAC Tournament Title. Tolin defeated Patel's Northwestern Oklahoma twice; however, Patel is 2-0 against Tolin in the LSC.
