SAN ANGELO – Coming off a weekend in which they suffered two road losses to Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M, the Angelo State men's basketball team looks to rebound to winning ways this weekend as they take on Cameron on Thursday night in Lawton before ending the weekend in Wichita Falls on Saturday against Midwestern State.
The Rams are 18-5 on the season and 14-3 in conference play; they sit a half-game back of West Texas A&M for the top spot in the Lone Star Conference standings and the LSC West Division.
The Rams average 75.3 points per game on 46.1 percent shooting from the field.
Kevon Godwin continues to shine offensively for the Rams, averaging 17.9 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field. The conference's third-leading scorer is also pacing the LSC in three-point shooting, shooting 42.1 percent from deep and making 2.6 threes per game.
Since the calendar flipped to 2023, Godwin has scored in double figures in all 12 of the Rams' games this year; he also scored 20 or more points in seven of the 12 games, including doing so each of the past three games.
Fredelin De La Cruz continues to rank in the top ten in the conference for rebounding, averaging 6.9 rebounds per game. The Rams' big man has tallied five double-doubles this season, including a 15-point, 11-rebound performance last week against the Chaps.
The senior post player is averaging 11.1 points per game and shooting 51.1 percent from the field.
Also scoring in double digits for the Rams is
Reggie Quezada. The New Yorker is averaging 11.7 points per game and shooting 41.8 percent from the field.
Following this weekend, the Rams are home for their final three games of the regular season, hosting DBU, UT Tyler, and UT Permian Basin.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron is 4-19 on the season and 2-15 in conference play; they are currently on a four-game losing streak.
The Rams are 32-19 against the Aggies; earlier this season, the Rams defeated the Aggies inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena 73-56. That game saw the Aggies' Jaylan Thomas score 24 points and grab nine rebounds while teammate Caylen Goff-Brown poured in 19 points.
Godwin led the Rams with 22 points, and Quezada and De La Cruz added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is 10-13 on the season and 7-10 in conference play; they lost their last two games and are 6-4 on their home court this season.
The Rams are 31-50 against the Mustangs; back on January 12
th, the Rams downed the Mustangs 89-74.
Marquis Davison led the Mustangs with 19 points, while Jermane Carter recorded a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double.
The Rams featured six players in double figures for scoring, led by Godwin's 18 points and De La Cruz's 17 points and 11 rebounds. Quezada added 16 points,
