LUBBOCK, Texas – With the South Central Regional gearing up tomorrow, the Angelo State women's basketball team placed two on the D2 CCA All-Region teams as
Sawyer Lloyd and
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant earned first team honors, the organization announced early Thursday afternoon.
Lloyd earns her first all-region selection after being named the Lone Star Conference Academic and Defensive Player of the Year in addition to being a first team all-conference and all-tournament team selection.
The Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration major has been in the top-ten in the Lone Star Conference in many statistical categories all season: 15.6 points per game (5
th), .392 field goal percentage (8
th), 8.0 rebounds per game (7
th), 4.7 assists per game (2
nd), 2.2 assist/turnover ratio (1
st), 2.8 steals per game (1
st), and 36.5 minutes per game (1
st).
McGhee-Pleasant also earns her first all-region nod after leading the Rambelles in scoring and rebounding in the 2022-23 season. The Amarillo native was voted a first team All-LSC selection after ranking fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.0 points per game.
The junior forward's name is also littered amongst the top of many conference categories: 8.8 rebounds per game (3
rd), .438 field goal percentage (6
th), and 1.1 blocks per game (8
th). The Kinesiology major also earned 11 double-double this season, the most on the team.
Lloyd, McGhee-Pleasant, and the Rambelles have their eyes set on the first-round match with West Texas A&M, scheduled for tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. from the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
