No. 19 Rams Continue Road Trip with Midwestern State, Cameron

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State men's basketball continues their weekend road trip to Wichita Falls and Lawton, Oklahoma, for matchups against Midwestern State and Cameron.

LAST TIME OUT IN RAMS BASKETBALL
The Rams dropped both games last weekend on the road, losing to No. 4 West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian. The Buffs beat the Rams 88-73, as the Rams played from behind for most of the contest. Kevon Godwin scored 21 points, Willie Guy scored 15 points, and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson had 14 points. In a 93-89 loss to Lubbock Christian, Embery-Simpson set a new career-high with 36 points on 12-for-20 shooting from the field and 7-for-13 shooting from three.

GODWIN, EMBERY-SIMPSON NAMED TO BEVO FRANCIS WATCHLIST
Kevon Godwin and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson were named to the Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List, presented annually to the player with the finest overall season in Small College Basketball.
They are the second and third-ever nominees for the Rams, joining Tre Bennett in 2016. The Rams are one of eight programs to have multiple nominees; the duo is two of the five players from the LSC and two of six from the South Central region to be nominated.

The Mustangs are 10-5 on the season and 4-5 in conference play; they are 7-3 on their home court this season. They are coming off a weekend in which they went 1-1, defeating Western New Mexico on the road before falling to Eastern New Mexico.

MSU scores 87.1 points per game, third-most in the LSC. They shoot 32.5 percent from three, 12th in the league, and are second with 39.8 rebounds per game. Mason Gibson is ninth in the LSC with 16.8 points per game, while point guard Pierre Sanders is fifth in the country in assist/turnover ratio with 3.68 a/t.

The Mustangs' defense allows 80.7 points per game, third-worst in the league; opponents shoot 42.3 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three against MSU. Big man Duncan Avelok leads the league with two blocks per game, while teammate Bakari LaStrap is sixth in steals with 1.6 per game.

LAST SEASON VS. MSU
The Rams are 32-50 all-time versus the Mustangs. Last season, the Rams claimed both contests, winning 89-74 in San Angelo and a 69-55 victory in Wichita Falls. Kevon Godwin led the Rams in scoring in their last matchup with 17 points.

The Aggies are 9-6 on the season and 5-4 in LSC play; they are 4-4 on their home court and are coming off a weekend in which they split their games, dropping to ENMU before beating Western New Mexico 84-76 in Silver City.

CU averages 81.8 points per game, fourth in the league; the Aggies are the best in the LSC in rebounding margin, out-rebounding opponents by 6.8 boards per contest. Andre Washington leads the Aggies with 6.6 rebounds per game and has recorded five double-doubles this season.

The Aggies' defense concedes 80 points per game, the fourth-worst in the LSC. Opponent shoot 47 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from three, which are the worst and second-worst marks in the LSC, respectively. Daylon Andrews leads the Aggies with 1.2 steals per game.

LAST SEASON VS. CU
The Rams are 33-19 all-time against the Aggies and have won the past five matchups, four of which took place in Lawton. The Rams have not lost in Lawton since 2016. Last season, the Rams won 73-56 at home and 69-58 on the road. Godwin led the Rams with 22 points and six rebounds, holding the Aggies to 37.5 percent shooting from the field and 26.3 percent from three on the Aggies' home court.

  •     Eleven Rams have recorded at least one personal best this season.
  •     Guard Everson Armstrong scored three points against ENMU on Janaury 6, making a fastbreak layup as well as making a free throw; he also recorded his first-career assist against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25. 
  •     Forward DJ Basey set a new career-high with four blocks against Western New Mexico on Jan. 4 and tied his career-high of eight rebounds against Oklahoma Christian on Dec. 9; he attempted a career-high 12 field goals against ENMU on Jan. 6 and tied his personal best of eight field goals made against the Greyhounds. 
  •     Forward Chris Boekhorst recorded his first-career assist against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25; he made two shots against the Patriots, tying a career-high.
  •     Guard Kendrick Delahoussaye scored 14 points in his home debut against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25; he made four free throws in his debut against Southern Arkansas on Nov. 21 and grabbed four rebounds versus Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 6.
  •     Guard Keyshawn Embery-Simpson scored a career-high 36 points for the Rams against LCU on Jan. 13. He went 12-20 from the field; he has made seven threes twice, doing so against West Liberty and LCU. 
  •     Forward DJ Freeman tied his personal best with 11 rebounds against UAFS on Dec. 7. 
  •     Guard Kevon Godwin tied his career high with seven assists twice this season, doing so against West Liberty and Eastern New Mexico. He also set a new career-high with seven steals versus Rollins on Dec. 17.
  •     Guard Willie Guy scored a career-high 20 points in the Rams' win over Oklahoma Christian on Dec. 9; he assisted a career-high nine times versus Western New Mexico on Jan. 4.
  •     Guard Jacob Richardson scored his first bucket against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25; he also recorded his first career rebound, assist and block. He recorded his first steal versus Rollins on Dec. 17.  
  •     Forward Shemar Smith rejected a pair of shots in the Rams 101-98 win over No. 6 West Liberty on Dec. 18. 
  •     Guard Carvell Teasett grabbed a new personal best of six rebounds in the Rams' win over Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 6.
