No. 10 Rams Face Stout Road Matchups versus No. 4 WT, LCU

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State men's basketball hits the road for the first time in 2024, facing a pair of tough road matchups this weekend in No. 4 West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian, who are a combined 8-2 on their home courts this season. The Buffs will be the third ranked opponent for the Rams this season, who won their first two games against ranked opposition. 

LAST TIME OUT IN RAMS BASKETBALL
The Rams extended their winning streak to 11 games with a pair of wins at home this past weekend against Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico. The Rams defeated the Mustangs 77-64 behind Trey Farrer's 12 points and ten rebounds, his third double-double of the season. The Rams then defeated the Greyhounds 88-85 with Farrer leading the way with 21 points while Kevon Godwin added in 20. 

RAMS RANKED
The Rams are ranked 10th in the NABC Top 25, their highest placing in the poll since January 3rd, 2017, when they were ranked fifth. 

GODWIN NAMED LSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kevon Godwin was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week, his sixth LSC weekly award since the beginning of last season, most in the league, and he is the first player in the league this season to earn both offensive and defensive player of the week awards.

The Buffs are 12-1 on the season and 6-0 in LSC play; the Buffs and the Rams are the only two undefeated teams left in the LSC. The Buffs are 3-1 at home, with their lone loss coming to MSU Denver on Nov. 16.

WT scores 83.2 points per game on 46.4 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent shooting from three. Larry Wise leads the team and is fifth in the LSC with 19 points per game, while freshman Kieran Elliott leads the team with seven rebounds per game.

The Buffs' defense allows 70.7 points per game on 42 percent shooting from the field. The Buffs force their opponents into 14.5 turnovers per game; however, they rank 14th in the LSC in steals, with 5.9 per game. Ryland Holt leads the team with 1.5 blocked shots per game. 

LAST SEASON VS. WT
The Rams are 23-56 all-time versus the Buffs, having gone 1-3 against them in four matchups last season. The home team took each of the regular-season matchups, while the Buffs defeated the Rams to win the LSC Tournament Championship before defeating them again in Canyon a week later at the South Central Regional. This matchup marks the first top-10 matchup for the Rams in the program's history.

The Chaps are 10-4 on the season and 5-1 in LSC play; they are 5-1 on their home court this season and are coming off their first LSC loss of the season, a 14-point defeat to Midwestern State on Saturday. 

LCU, like the Rams, score 80.2 points per game on 50.4 percent shooting from the field and 42.7 percent from three; they lead the league in three-point percentage and threes made per game (11.2). Tiras Morton leads the team with 17.1 points per game and 8.6 boards per contest. 

The Chaps hold opponents to 68.3 points per game; opponents shoot 45.9 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from three. LCU boasts the conference's second-best turnover margin and the best assist/turnover ratio. Morton has 20 of the team's 34 blocks while Najeeb Muhammad leads the team with 1.7 steals per game.

The Rams are 24-9 all-time against the Chaps, with the home team taking each matchup. The Rams have not won in Lubbock since January 11th, 2020. Last season in Lubbock, Kevon Godwin led the Rams with 20 points and six assists as the Rams fell to the Chaps by a single point.

  •     Eleven Rams have recorded at least one personal best this season.
  •     Guard Everson Armstrong scored three points against ENMU on Janaury 6, making a fastbreak layup as well as making a free throw; he also recorded his first-career assist against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25. 
  •     Forward DJ Basey set a new career-high with four blocks against Western New Mexico on Jan. 4 and tied his career-high of eight rebounds against Oklahoma Christian on Dec. 9; he attempted a career-high 12 field goals against ENMU on Jan. 6 and tied his personal best of eight field goals made against the Greyhounds. 
  •     Forward Chris Boekhorst recorded his first-career assist against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25; he made two shots against the Patriots, tying a career-high.
  •     Guard Kendrick Delahoussaye scored 14 points in his home debut against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25; he made four free throws in his debut against Southern Arkansas on Nov. 21 and grabbed four rebounds versus Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 6.
  •     Guard Keyshawn Embery-Simpson scored a career-high 30 points in his ASU debut against Fort Lewis on Nov. 10. He went 12-21 from the field; his career high of seven threes made came in the Rams 101-98 win over No. 6 West Liberty on Dec. 18. 
  •     Forward DJ Freeman tied his personal best with 11 rebounds against UAFS on Dec. 7. 
  •     Guard Kevon Godwin tied his career high with seven assists twice this season, doing so against West Liberty and Eastern New Mexico. He also set a new career-high with seven steals versus Rollins on Dec. 17.
  •     Guard Willie Guy scored a career-high 20 points in the Rams' win over Oklahoma Christian on Dec. 9; he assisted a career-high nine times versus Western New Mexico on Jan. 4.
  •     Guard Jacob Richardson scored his first bucket against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 25; he also recorded his first career rebound, assist and block. He recorded his first steal versus Rollins on Dec. 17.
