SAN ANGELO – Angelo State men's basketball head coach
Vinay Patel announces his first signing of the summer in graduate transfer guard Kaden Evans. Evans, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, comes to Angelo State from Division II school Emporia State.
"Kaden was the first player we signed in this recruiting class. The moment he decided to transfer, our entire staff knew we needed to add a player of his caliber and character to our roster," said Patel. "He is a seasoned guard at the Division II level and has started all but two games in the last three years at Emporia State."
Evans comes from an Emporia State program that averaged over 20 wins per season in Evans' three seasons for the Hornets. As a freshman, Evans led Division II with 3.1 steals per game and was an All-MIAA Honorable Mention as a sophomore. Last season, Evans averaged 6.6 points and grabbed 3.3 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-4 guard shot 35 percent from three and had a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Evans is second among all Division II players in career steals with 187.
"Kaden does many things that affect winning! He is the perfect fit for our system and program. He can shoot the basketball, has had a career 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio, and is a proven defender," said Patel. "Coach Craig Doty at Emporia took a Division 1 job this spring, and we were very fortunate to land Kaden for his last season. He has already started graduate school and will complete a Master's in Business Administration in May."
The Rams are coming off a season in which they went 19-11 overall and qualified for the South Central Regional for the second straight season under Patel's leadership.
