San Angelo, Texas - Sophomore Margaux Rene will be heading to the ITA CUP in Rome, Georgia starting on Thursday Oct. 16th - Oct. 19th. 
 
At the ITA South-Central regional Rene was the third seed in the tournament. In Round 64 Rene defeated Luisa Moraes out of UT Tyler 6-4, 6-3 to advance to Round of 32. In Round 32 Rene defeated Nil Kalkavan 6-1, 6-2. Rene would then go on to defeat Oshini Hearth out of Lubbock Christian to advance to the Quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Rene took out Alessia Terlizzi out of St. Mary's, defeating her 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. Where Rene faced off against the number one seed Yona Bancarel defeating her 6-2 in straight sets to advance to the finals of the South-Central Regionals. In the final, Rene's run would fall short as she fell to Selin Sepken 0-6, 5-7. 
 
Rene made the tournament due to the winner of one of the regional tournaments declining the invitation. With Rene being in the finals of the ITA South-Central regional she was the first one considered to take the spot. 
 
Rene will take on Alina Kupfer from Point Loma Nazarene at 11:30 on Oct. 16 in the Round of 16.
