DJ Freeman Earns LSC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Richardson, Texas – The Lone Star Conference announced this morning that Angelo State men's basketball forward DJ Freeman has been named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week for his play this past weekend, as he helped the Rams to a 2-0 week as they make the final push towards postseason play.

Freeman averaged 12.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks across two games as the Rams defeated No. 5 DBU and UT Tyler this past weekend inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena. The Rams' opponents combined to shoot 32.3 percent from the field and 22.6 percent from three.

Against the nation's fifth-ranked team, the product of Midwest City, Oklahoma, scored nine points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and blocked three shots as the Rams snapped DBU's 11-game winning streak. The Rams held the Patriots to 34.8 percent shooting from the field, 16 percent from three, and 61 points, all season-lows for the league leaders.

The Interdisciplinary Studies major capped the weekend with eight points, 13 rebounds, and a pair of blocks in the Rams' 76-62 win over UT Tyler.

This is the first LSC Player of the Week honor for the Rams this season and the first for Freeman in his career.

Freeman has hit his stride recently, averaging 13.3 rebounds per game and 1.7 blocks per game over his past three games.

The Rams are 16-11 on the season and 12-9 in LSC play. They close out the regular season against UT Permian Basin on Thursday evening inside the Junell Center—Stephens Arena.
