SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State men's basketball team is back on their home court for the first time in February, looking to build off last week's win as they host a pair of opponents - Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State - on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon, respectively, inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
The Rams snapped their three-game losing streak with a 91-80 win over UT Permian Basin in Odessa last Thursday.
Quadir Pettaway scored 22 points, making seven of his 12 three-point attempts, and
Jhordan Ryan anchored the interior with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks.
SCOUTING WESTERN NEW MEXICO
Western New Mexico, who are receiving votes in this week's NABC Division II Top 25 poll, are 16-4 on the season and 10-3 in conference play. The Mustangs are riding a six-game winning streak and are 7-2 on the road this season, having won two of their three road games since the calendar flipped to 2026. The Mustangs score 77.9 points per game on 44.7 percent shooting from the field and 31.3 percent from three-point range. Cortaviaus Seales leads the team with 16.1 points per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the field. Isaiah Broady leads the rebounding effort for the Mustangs as they grab 2.6 more boards per game than their opposition.
Broady scores 12.4 points per game and has recorded two double-doubles this season. Defensively, they force teams into 13.3 turnovers per game, while the opposition shoots 41 percent from the field and 29 percent from three against the Mustangs. The Rams are 14-3 all-time against the Mustangs and have won the last six games in the series. Last season, the Rams walked away with a 79-73 win over WNMU in San Angelo.
SCOUTING SUL ROSS STATE
Sul Ross State is 4-13 on the season and 2-10 in conference play this season, and are coming off a week in which they claimed a 25-point win over Texas A&M International. The Lobos are winless in their seven road games this season and last won on the road on January 16th, 2025, against Eastern New Mexico. The Lobos score 65.7 points per game on 38.3 percent shooting from the field and 32.7 percent from deep. Antwonne Holmes and Tim Mikhailov each score 10.3 points per game, leading the team. Camren Roper leads the team in rebounding (6.7 per game), assists (3.5 per game) and steals (3.5 per game). Opponents score 77.8 points per game on 47.1 percent shooting from the field and 35.3 percent from three. Opponents turn the ball over 15.7 times per game and out-rebound the Lobos by 8.6 rebounds per contest. The Rams are 3-1 all-time against the Lobos - SRSU collected their first win over Angelo State back on November 20th in Alpine. The Rams' offense ran cold that night, only shooting 30.2 percent from the field and 15 percent from three.
AIR JHORDAN
Jhordan Ryan has been a force down low for the Rams since being inserted into the starting lineup. In his six games as a starter, Ryan has recorded five double-doubles, doing so last time out in the Rams' win over UT Permian Basin. The Montserratian has averaged 37 minutes per game and played the full 40 minutes twice. He is averaging 13 points and 12 rebounds in the past six games, which was highlighted by an 18-point, 19-rebound effort against UT Dallas.
LITTLE NAMED LSC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK TO OPEN SEASON
Rams forward
Zyon Little was named the Lone Star Conference defensive player of the week for his performances at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at the Trailhead to start off the 2025-26 season. Little led the Rams' rebounding effort, averaging seven rebounds per game. The Dickinson native also nearly recorded two double-doubles with 11 points and eight rebounds against Nebraska-Kearney and ten points and eight rebounds against No. 10 Colorado School of Mines.
NEW TEAM, WHO DIS?
The Rams will have a new look in the 2025-26 season as they return only two players -
Chace Fields and
Darius Brady - from last year's team. The Rams' coaching staff brought in 12 new players, four of whom come from the Division I ranks. Four of the newcomers join ASU from a JUCO, two from Division II, and two from high school.
RAMS RANKED SIXTH IN LSC PRESEASON POLL
The Rams were picked sixth in the LSC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's coaches, sports information directors, and media members. Defending regional champions DBU were picked to repeat as LSC Champions, followed by St. Mary's, Lubbock Christian, St. Edward's, and West Texas A&M.

Vinay Patel, the Rams are 39-7 inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, good enough for an .848 winning percentage. The Rams won their first 21 games on their home court under Patel's guidance, including a 13-0 mark in 2022-23, Patel's first season in charge.
